Great, fat and cheap burritos and authentic dishes in the atmosphere that you expect from a taqueria. I have eaten here many times, over the years, and have never been disappointed. The food is great and the counter service is friendly. It's location is a bit poor, but it is worth searching out.
I was in the mood for a burrito and Chivo's caught my eye, so I figured I'd give it a shot.I ordered the carnitas super burrito and it was outstanding! The tortilla was grilled--not steamed--which improves the taste right from the start. Plenty of succulent, perfectly roasted carnitas--crispy on the outside, juicy and tender inside--was wrapped within. I would go back for more.
This is a little place out near Concord Naval Weapons Station. I had tacos ($2.00), and my friend the veggie burrito ($4.99). He loved his, and mine was equally good. The menu offers a wide selection of Tortas (sandwiches), Tostadas, et al, with a price range up to $11 or so. For such an out-of-the-way place, I thought the $3.75 price was high for beer.
Really great Mexican food at cheap prices! I used to come here after work and would order their nachos with shredded beef to go. The best nachos I've ever had. The shredded beef they use is marinated to perfection, tender and juicy. Too bad I don't work near here anymore but I still dropped by to get some delicious eats.
The meat is fresh, fresh, fresh from the adjacent market's meat counter. Skip the burritos, tacos and mole since it's not up to the same gold standard. Popular and supported by the local crowd of working guys on lunch break and families with kids, it can get busy, with long waits for the delicious pupusas. But well worth it.
The servers are all very nice. I get burritos a lot and those are great. Chimichangas is pretty good too. Plenty of beer selections, more tequila than you can shake a stick at and it's never so crowded that I haven't gotten to sit right away. Good Mexican food and the portions are large, along with happy hour, the bill came to $12 a person. Including drinks!
I ordered the half grilled chicken along with a chicken enchilada to share. Just like everyone says the chicken is scrumptious, as well as with their chips and salsa. However, the enchilada was not very warm and the cheese on top was not melted all the way, so I don't think I would order one of those again.
This place is pretty rad and they have the junk machines with fast food erasers, that was the icing on the cake for me as well as their flan, which comes in a wedge and does not taste as though it was made from a box. I'll be drooling over the flan in my daydreams.
Dining at La Mexicana Restaurant was definitely and authentic, relaxed and delicious experience. They simply serve the best corn tortillas on the planet. And they have the cleanest place you will ever step foot in. You could eat off of their floors. I recommend the chicken enchiladas, though the real reason anyone comes is for the tortillas with real butter pats, so you will have to get a to go box because you will be full by the time it arrives. I love the sodas in real glass bottles.
The food is delicious (their super quesadillas are truly super) and the portions are very generous. The service is ok, but everyone is really friendly, so set aside a good amount of time and expect some fun chit chat with the staff. I get the nachos with guacamole - really good. Really really tasty homemade guacamole. I really love their soups too - very chunky and rich.
It's not your typical taqueria, focusing more on traditional indigenous foods and preparation. The huarache, which the restaurant is named after, come in plenty of varieties and the two I was able to sample were great. The pork was great, the hominy was good, it was just the broth that was too mild for me. I ordered the chilaquiles. They were spicy, the tortilla was still crispy, and the sauce was nice and thick. I would go back and try some more items on the menu.
