Despite some of the negative reviews, my boyfriend & I loved the food & thought that it was priced accordingly. Although a little on the pricy side- when taken into account that most of the menu is composed of easily spoiled seafood & that it is located in the Gramercy area on Park- I thought it was comparable to other similar restaurants.
We LOVED the asian-latin flair. We loved the sea bass & sashimi. We had never has peruvian corn before & thought it was good. The drinks were good & we thought the service was good too. We went for an early dinner on a Saturday so it wasn't very crowded. We will definitely be going back.
Although we moved from the immediate area last year, we still go back to this bagel store. I was there for the 1st time this weekend since they expanded. The added space was definitely long overdue & with the current low temperatures- the timing couldn't be better (since we would have been outside waiting). We ate at the counter (think bar stools against the window)- which was a nice alternative to eating in the car.
The bagels are just as good as I remember. Both the BF & the roommate prefer Bagel Club to any Fresh Meadows bagel stores & go more often than I do.
One complaint- we got a black & white cookie that I ate later that night- it was wrapped in Saran Wrap which made the cookie taste like plastic...
This deli has good sandwiches & has been offering chopped salads made to order for quite some time. The salad prices are better than other places I've been to in the Syosset area. There is a counter that serves hot food also (pasta, chicken specials, soup, etc- think cafeteria style) & they recently expanded so the store is kind of like a mini-mart now.
They also have a daily specials menu that they fax over to the office every morning- which adds convenience.
Pinatas is in between a sit down & fast food Mexican place. The food is good & since it's mostly burritos & quesadillas- it's quick as well. The taco salad is good with chicken- the chicken is marinated in some kind of red sauce that is really good. The prices are average for this type of place.
It's definitely a much better option to the chain Mexican places, like On the Border, & is not in the same category as Taco Bell.
We go here for our Christmas party every year. The food is pretty good- typical bar food- the penne alla vodka (believe it or not) and the beef teriyaki are good. We go with a group of 25+ so they offer a buffet at a good price (we used to do individual meals when the group was smaller).
The only complaint is that the bartender (a younger girl) is a little on the cranky side. We moved to the bar after lunch (which includes unlimited pitchers of beer) & she kept telling us to be quiet. I think that if you work at a bar- a dive 1 no less- you shouldn't be so sensitive to noise. We used to go there for other occasions (birthdays, engagements, etc) but don't any more b/c of the cranky bartender.
I love the food at Mangoes- although I don't eat there as much as I'd like to. Since it's not 'fast-food' Mexican, the 1-hr lunch break doesn't always work out. If you order ahead though, it's definitely doable. The Burrito de Lux (chicken & chorizo sausage) is my favorite & I once ordered the Burrito Supreme (chicken & beef) accidentally & love that 1 too!! The Pollo (Chicken) Avocado & Arroz con Pollo (Rice & Chicken) are also very good.
The owner is very nice & for your birthday they play a Happy Birthday song & give you a 'slug' of tequila out of the bottle- it's very amusing & a good time. They used to give out sombreros too but I don't know if they still do that.
Make sure you try the fresh guacamole- they make it tableside- yummy!!
My friend got married here in July & the view was spectacular. We had been here for dinner on the 1st floor before but her wedding was upstairs & I didn't expect the view of the Queensboro bridge. Both the NYC skyline & lit bridge at night were spectacular.
The food was good both when we had dinner there & at the wedding. I wish that I had been able to eat more at the wedding- I had this polenta cake that was great but was unable to finish it. I didn't love the cocktail hour but I think that was b/c I was in the wedding party & I didn't like some of the Bride & Groom's selections. There was more than enough food though- I think the only thing they 'ran out of' was the food at the panini station. I also like that they handed out martinis & cosmos as you walked into the cocktail hour
I think that Brettons may have been taken over by a new owner- I've yet to ask. They used to make really good sandwhiches. The last time I went in there, they had changed the hero rolls (they are harder- I used to like the soft rolls b/c they didn't scrape the roof of my mouth) & they changed the lettuce they put put on the sandwhiches (if you're going to be chopping the lettuce for sandwhiches I think that iceberg is much better than romaine).
The egg sandwhiches seem too be the same & they still offer the same wraps plus some other 'specials'. I used to like to go to Brettons & nearby Stuff-a-Bagel but both are not as good as they were a yr or so ago. I would recommend Fireside over Brettons.
This used to be a GREAT bagel store. They would get them every Weds at work & I used to stop in to get egg sandwhiches. One Weds, I noticed they didn't taste the same & was told that they were under new ownership- it's unfortunate that they didn't keep the same cook/ recipe b/c the 'new' bagels are nowhere close to as good as the old ones.
I haven't been inside recently but it appears that the new owners redid the place- it looks like they're carrying more things (like juice, etc) which may indicate that they're prices are also higher than with the past owners.
I used to like to grab food from this small strip mall type area of Bethpage but I think that the deli (Brettons) is under new ownership also & they seem to be following the same path as Stuff-A-Bagel.
I love this bagel store b/c it's open 24 hrs. The bagels are good (but I've yet to have a bad bagel in Queens though). They carry juice & milk & since it's located on the LIE service road, it makes it convenient for running in to pick up something quick.
I like their chicken salad BLT with American cheese- my BF likes the Chicken Cutlet club with Pepperjack. The 'salads' always seem fresh & the bacon isn't fatty or overdone.
