Can't afford to eat here often, but it's worth the splurge every once in a while to sample the chef's delicious cuisine. I like the lobster and just adore the flash fried spinach. They mix a great cocktail too. Sometimes a little jazz group will play and the owner sits in and jams. Very good place to celebrate special events
This used to be a favorite of mine for breakfast meetings with a wonderful breakfast buffet. I went there once about six months ago and was sorely disappointed in the food and the service. Don't know what has happened.
I will stop here for lunch when I want to meet one of my pals who works downtown or at the University. Get there early because they are packed for lunch. You can get a great lunch special for a very reasonable price. Last time I ate thee was last fall for lunch and I had a steak sandwich. Very good.
We don't live in Marshfield but have occasion to visit there a few times a year. We've eaten twice at El Charro and the food was very good. Same (or very similar) menu to the Cielito Lindo restaurants in Springfield. Place is clean but really lacking atmosphere. You have to know it's there or you'll miss it, which would be your loss.
They have a wide variety of hot wings on the menu and all are very good. The rest of the menu is good, mostly burgers and tex-mex fusion. They serve coctails and beer too. Prices are moderate. Oh, and they have a buffet at lunch and happy hour too.
I've got a friend whom I meet for breakfast at College St. Cafe on a regular basis. You'll often see police officers stop in for breakfast or lunch here. It's an old school cafe with good breakfasts and lunches at modest prices. Can't fault the coffee or waitresses either.
Cody's has been in Springfield at least 35 years. Last time I ate there, this fall, I had the "smaller burger" with the "handful of fries" and still was stuffed. Only big appetites should try to finish the Prime Rib Sandwich or Bigger Burger and half orders of fries, onion, rings or 'shrooms. I don't think one person could even finish the full orders. They have beer on tap and sodas too. It's a friendly place to shoot pool and play the jukebox too.
They have a huge menu and all of it is good. My very favorite is the Chiles Rellenos ala carte. It's full of melty cheese and three giant poblano peppers. REALLY good. Reasonable prices and friendly staff round out the good report.
This joint is always busy at breakfast and lunch, packed with working folks from all walks of life. The waitresses are old school and the service is friendly and efficient. The portions are HUGE. If you like chicken fried steak with mashed taters and gravy this is the place for you. Easy on the pocketbook too.
I took my Mom here this summer when we went to see the Andy Williams matinee. We had lunch before the show and it was very very good. We had a great waiter from Russia and really enjoyed the meal. It's a little pricey for lunch, but enjoyable.
