You know everything will be perfect -- pickles, matzo ball soup, fish, omelets. You can get chocolate chip cookies to go. The deli sandwiches are enormous -- pack up half and take home. The building is charming with a very authentic vibe. Don't forget the chocolate egg cream.
Economy has everything for restaurants, of course, and very inexpensive, but it also has stuff for ME and YOU. Really cool stuff like a giant martini glass (20 oz, good to be used as a serving piece filled with snacks or cookies), a giant margarita glass, huge jars of delicious stuffed olives, other drink garnishes, excellent cooking utensils, low price full aprons, and other totally cool things. Some things you have to buy a dozen of, but not everything. This place is from another time in the past and quite wonderful.
Feldman & Feldman specializes in elder care law issues, which can be complicated when a client is dealing with incapacitated or mentally disabled relatives. Paul Feldman is extremely kind and concerned and takes his time with clients, explaining options and making recommendations. I have used his services when faced with moving a mother with Alzheimers to assisted living, handling her divorce when her second husband dumped her after 30 years, and sorting out a complete maze of financial records. My nieces used him when their father died suddently and unexpectedly. I referred a neighbor to him whose husband developed Alzheimers and who was disatisfied with her lawyer. When a person suddenly has a catastrophe dumped on him/her and needs excellent legal help, I can't think of a better firm to contact than Feldman & Feldman.
Prince Music Theater's mission is to present new or long forgotten musicals. Some are amazing, some should have been kept in the trunk, but you can't blame them for trying. Well more hits than misses and very adventurous. All top notch professional actors. The theater building itself is spacious with all good sightlines. Reasonable ticket prices. Always an interesting time to be had.
I love Carribean Delight. It is impossible to decide whether the curry or jerk is more delicious. Chicken, beef, fish, goat -- and cabbage and red beans and rice. Everything is SO good. The plantains are sweet and tender -- order an extra side. And the drinks -- watermelon juice, sharp ginger ale, tropical sodas. Makes me want to order just writing about them. You can't make a mistake here. And reasonably priced.
Rillings makes the best petit fours you'll ever dream of. Their cupcakes are giant and gorgeous. All birthday cakes for my family come from there. This is just the perfect family owned bakery for all occasions. Adorable Valentine's Day heart shaped goodies too. A FIND!
Went there last New Year's Eve, which was VERY pricy. Made reservations, there were empty tables, and my party of 4 was seated NEXT to the elevator. With people coming and going constantly. It was a prix fixe buffet and quite frankly was terrible. Some of the entrees had run out. The service wasn't great, the food wasn't great, it was not fun at all. I would never go back there. The architecture clashed with the decorative slabs of marble. I could cry when I remember the beautiful Barrymore Room and what has become of it.
You want a huge selection of purses, wallets, glasses cases, cosmetic cases, other leather things like that, go to Levinthals. The prices are amazing, there must be 1000's of bags to choose from. Every style, size, color. I never leave empty handed and they always have what I've come in for and then lots more that I ended up buying too. Levinsthals is back from another era. Check them out.
Man o man -- MTJIC makes a deep dish apple pie in a turkey roasting pan, it is 6" high of apples at least, very little crust, warm, cinnamony, can be breakfast or dinner, and definitely to share. The other baked goods are also out of this world. The pumpkin mousse pie at Thanksgiving is world class. But the PIE, sigh...
Not to argue with the other review -- but SSS is GREEK! Delicious authentic GREEK. Hummus, pita, felafel, grilled fish, wonderful appetizers (if a bit on the salty side), lots of vegetables, a fabulous restaurant that has been a fixture of South Street for 20+ years. A real homey place. YUMMY.
