White Lake Inn is a classic party destination for residents of White Lake and surrounding areas. The food is okay, but the entertainment offered is always top-notch. Live music, great d.j.'s, as well as other forms of entertainment are the reason you want to check it out. They offer beach volley ball in the summer, snow-mobile racing in the winter, and more. I think it's safe to say that White Lake Inn offers more in the way of entertainment than any other bar in the area.
Ski resorts being few and far, Alpine Valley doesn't have much competition, which could explain their lack of change in years. I, personally am not a skier but I don't think I need to be to form an opinion of Alpine Valley. The mountain, or hill, itself seems good enough, but it just seems to me that the whole place needs a makeover. It hasn't changed one bit in the 15 years that I've been a White Lake resident. When I first moved here in '93 I thought then that the place was outdated. Everything about Alpine Valley just feels old, and I don't mean in a novel, rustic way. I think the owners need to dump about $500,000 into remodeling to get the place up to date somewhat. If nothing else, they could at least spend a very small amount replacing the unsightly and gaudy entrance. I know many will agree on this on.
Sparkie's American Grill in the shopping center next to Rite Aid is a great place to eat. Very reasonable prices and the food is A-1, excellent. I would rate the food about the same quality as Highland House, but Sparkie's wins overall due to more reasonable prices. I've met both owners and Steve Suser, owner of Sparkie's is a very nice person, charitable as well. I've heard of Jean, the Highland House owner giving gift certificates for charitable purposes, but not with a smile. Sparkie's will donate 20% of their daily earnings for a charitable cause, and smile doing it. It's a great and wonderful place to eat. Clean and friendly environment and staff. Food has good presentation, and great taste.
The new Walgreens at the corner of Highland Rd. and Duck Lk. Rd. is a great additon to Highland's business district. Personally, I shop there because no one beats their prices on cigarettes-not even the tobacco store across the street from them. You can always get two packs of premium brands for less than $10. As for there pharmacy, they need to work on some promotional ideas if they're going to keep up with Rite Aid and CVS.
Highland Auto Supply (NAPA) is the best place to go for parts in the Milford-Highland-White Lake area. Their prices are second to none on parts and tools. Ex: 2 1/2 ton quick jack $130.00 at Highland Auto Supply, $220 and higher everywhere else. They always have the parts we need foreign or domestic, and if not they can get it within one day-always. There staff is always friendly. They treat you as though you're their neighbor instead of a customer. We always buy our parts there, and will continue to do so for years to come.
We recently opened a business checking account at this branch, and I have award the highest honors here. It was a painless process, Steve Morey, the representative helping us was courteous, professional, and helpful. He lead through all of our options, making suggestions that would affect our business in a positive way. The staff are all kind and friendly. The account set ups are very beneficial, with reasonable rates. I would recommend banking here for business or personal matters.
Spring Valley Party Store is bar none the absolute best in the business, as far as I'm concerned, locally and abroad. I've been friendly with the owner and staff as well for some time. They've never been anything but polite, helpful, and accommodating. They have the widest selection of alcohol I've seen-domestic and imported. On the rare occasion that I was unable to find my selection, they would order a whole case of it to insure that I wouldn't have to go far to get my choice of drink. Their prices are very reasonable, the store is always immaculately clean, which is huge as far as I'm concerned. They offer many services from cashing checks to filling kegs. Spring Valley Party Store sets the standard in this area for party supply stores.
