Ignorant sales adviser and lies lies lies...how the hell do american gyms get away with this type of behavior...in ireland lying to get members lands you in serious trouble!
I rang a few days ago to enquire about joining the nyhrc on E 76th street and the sales adviser went through different types of membership but today they tell me paying month to month on non commitment membership will cost me $219 instead of the $119 that i was quoted yesterday. They do offer $369 for 3mth in cash as i refuse to give them my bank details! You can refuse, no one has the right to take what isn't theirs!
Membership details quoted to me on Dec 11 2008:
*Non Commitment cash per month upfront $219
* " " " paid via bank/credit card per month $119
*3 month cash upfront $369
*Pay full year up front = $1249
Her attitude sucks badly, she interrupted me and didn't even apologise. People like this should never be allowed to work in a Customer Service role.
This month Im going to look at cleanliness, wear and tear of fitness equipment and lockers, health and safety standards, staff attitudes.
You can send me your thoughts on this, if you would like me to review a gym you want to go to, please get in touch.
I went in with my friend and we were so impressed by the friendly faces, beautiful decor and colorful accessories which add to the character of this quaint little cafe. It's like the book itself...2nd chapter...
Customer service is always good, waitresses have warm smiles and friendly characters. The soups and muffins are really good...fresh, full of taste and good portions. The jam and clotted cream is made with so much care and attention...
The salads were light, crunchy and full of wonderful ingredients that fuse together. The carrot and cumin salad left me wanting more...
As for the selection of tea...i was as stunned by the many flavors as i was with the decorative plates, saucers and cups. Even the teapots themselves are so colorful. Every time i go there, i get a different teapot...a different taste...and always a friendly smile.
Whether you like soup, salads or something sweet, Alice's Tea Cup has created a warm inviting place for everyone to experience.
See you there :)
After bad food at an expensive restaurant i decided to order in and found a nice healthy pita place that delivers. It is called Pita Grill on 1st ave between 81st&82nd street.
The food arrived on time...i gave a 20% tip...im irish...not sure how much to tip for food deliveries. Anyway i got a shock when i opened the McDonalds style packaging to find burnt sweet potato fries which were cold and had dried up. The delivery guy just put my order in a plastic bag and delivered...in Ireland food deliveries arrive hot because they carry them in heat/thermal packs...very disappointed!
The chicken BLT was okay, bread was soggy! It had some kind of avocado spread which was okay. The corn on the cob was all shriveled&was put it in the bin immediately. The beef burger was good apart from the soggy bap but was very impressed with the meat and cheese in it.
The chocolate brownie was stale but the carrot cake was really good...couldn't finish it though...real shame!
When i put my order in they asked online if i wanted to help save the environment by refusing plastic cutlery so i ticked the box...but the plastic cutlery arrived. Have to say all in all it was okay but will not be ordering from them again!
On a very recent visit to Park Avenue Cafe with my good friend, we were looking forward to eating good food in a relaxed atmosphere with top customer service. We both had a tough week and decided to 'splash out'.
For starter we ordered the butternut squash soup which was warm and creamy and also the scallops which arrived cold but were supposed to be warm...so we pushed them aside.
For the main meal we ordered the chicken dish but it was quite dry and tough so she munched through her sprouts and snow peas instead. The snow peas had an unexpected tasteless sauce at the bottom of the dish as so they were also pushed to the side but the sprouts were really good. I ordered lobster and had been looking forward to it for a very long time. It had been grilled and was really chewy. Very disappointing for 39$'s. My veg was creamed parsnip&spinach but they did not state that there would be loads of cheese on top so that dish was also pushed to the side.
It had been such a bad week that we did not have the patience to complain. Sometimes it is better to erase bad memories rather than thinking what the best solution is!
As for dessert, we both ordered the sorbet which you get 3 scoops of any flavor. My friend also ordered the Butter Cake and I ordered the Chocolate Cube. Everything was so good except my friends Coconut&Curry sorbet which we had to nickname 'smelly feet'...it was so bad! I had orange, raspberry and grapefruit which were really nice.
Our overall experience was mediocre. Customer service was okay as our waiter was from central america and didn't quite understand english. Anyway, when the bill came we challenged them about the scallops which they took off. We decided that the chicken could be a treat for the cat and decided not to complain any further. We left a 15% tip which was more than enough for the bad food.
The decor gave a relaxed atmosphere except the 'real fur walls' which i am totally against! If you are an animal lover and fur activist this restaurant is not for you.
We also ordered a mint tea and earl grey, both of which were really good.
We would consider going back for soup, tea and dessert but would not waste my money on the rest! And i have to say that the best lobster is at Mo's Carribean on E 76th st.

The only reason i joined DB gym was because a very good friend of mine recommended it.
When i first joined up it was really hot in the gym and in the changing rooms, it still is. As my training is regimented i did not expect to train in such a humid environment. During my first training session at the club i became very dehydrated and had to demand that the air conditioning be turned up which i am sure other members were not happy about!
I asked how many rowing machines there were and the lady said 'i think there are two'. So, i checked and there was one...you would think that the Sales Adviser should know this?! She stated that 'it never gets used'. My problem came about when i tried sitting on it and nearly fell off because it was unstable! I got off it immediately and complained to staff. The bolts that keep the front of the machine upright were so loose i was able to tighten then with my fingers. So, far I have used the machine about 6 times now and it rattles and clanks like it is about to die. Also there is a clanking noise coming from the underside where the chain is housed. Concept 2 rowing machines take a lot of abuse and they will keep their smooth stroke and un jolted catch if they are cared for properly...this piece of equipment has not.
I cannot understand why DB has at least 3 of each aerobic machines and does not cater for everyone. No wonder everyone hates the rowing machine...I had said during my tour of gym before joining that i will be using only free weights and rowing machine. The lady replied that the machine never gets used and all would be fine but i had to wait a long time the other day. I do not appreciate being lied to.
Customer service is disgraceful...is the joke on them that the irish girl gets bad service?! I was not given a timetable when i first joined and had to ask my friend to photocopy her timetable which states opening& closing hours, and classes available...essential don't you think!
After all my bad experiences at DB gym i refuse to shed out 179$ of money each month for bad experiences. David Barton gym is a major disappointment and i will not be returning. With everything that has gone on they leave me with no confidence in health and safety standards or customer service or proper maintenance of rowing equipment.
I am waiting to hear about termination of my contract...
