I went here to try the burgers (phenomenal) and the milkshakes (got a banana, and it was definitely one of the best in town). But what really struck me about Sloopy's was the ambiance. You step inside to find a beautiful 2-leveled patio just brimming with flowers and vines. You order and pick up your food at the little shack near the front, and then can choose to sit at any of the wooden tables further adorned with a cute little plant. With the lush vegetation and light filtering through the vines It seriously felt like some kind of forest-haven in the midst of Manhattan Beach.
And again, the food was top-notch. Their menu is also extensive, including a bunch of breakfast selections as well. Could not love this place more!!
This place is amazing. My boyfriend and I went there for an anniversary dinner and it was perfect. We later took his family there - they loved it. Then we took my family there - they raved about it too.
Every time we've gone the food has been impeccable. The sauces on all the pastas are spectacular and every appetizer we've had has been superb (the calamari, the bruschetta, and most recently a to DIE for prosciutto, burrata, and tomato plate... everything just melts in your mouth). The desserts are delicious as well. The last time I went with my family we all ordered something different and I got to taste a bit of each and they were all great!
The ambiance is homey, spacious, and relaxing - you can actually have a conversation without screaming at your dining partner - and the service is some of the best I've experienced, a perfect combination of warm and professional. There's a wonderful down-to-earth, family-owned feel that completely lacks pretentiousness and really makes you feel comfortable.
Lastly, the prices are EXTREMELY reasonable for what you are getting. You would pay way more for this type of service & taste anywhere else.
There are a lot of good restaurants in LA but these types of restaurants are few and far between. A must-try!
Visited here for the first time for brunch last weekend, after finding that the Overland Cafe was ridiculously packed. Plenty of seating here, ordered our food at the counter (the woman was very helpful upon hearing it was our first time there) and then had it brought over to us. We ate on the little patio area and although it was a cool day the heaters and the plastic sheeting (to block the wind) kept the area warm.
My tuna melt was fantastic as was my boyfriend's bacon-wrapped hotdog (but how can you really go wrong with that?) We also ordered some garlic fries which were good & garlicky but could have done with less oil. With the amount of oiliness and the smallness of the shoestring fries, I felt like I should have been eating them with a fork.
All and all a great little place for brunch/lunch and would definitely come back again!
I definitely liked this place but didn't totally LOVE it like I have with some of the other gems I've found in downtown Culver. Would have liked to give 3.5 stars if that was possible. They have quite a selection of vegetarian/macrobiotic options. I got the club sandwich after reading it online and was very impressed since it was totally vegan (down to the "bacon.") It was good even compared to non-veggie club sandwiches, but definitely not the best I've ever had. My boyfriend had a few selections of sushi which I nabbed a few bites of and liked. The brown rice is a nice touch. We also had some minty green tea which was good and refreshing.
My final verdict: the food was good in a healthy, non-meat, non-dairy food sort of way. I enjoyed my meal but could do with just a smidgen more flavor in some of the things I tried. Might go back to try the desserts though!
I love this small Japanese ramen restaurant in the Torrance Crossroads plaza. Their ramen is top notch and they offer a few other dishes including a must-try kimchi fried rice. I've never had to wait for a table and the service is always quick and friendly. Love coming here with a group of friends!
I've been to Ugo a few times and it's always been a pleasant experience. Their appetizers and paninis are good and their gelato is honestly to die for. I really like the breezy ambiance - even though it's often full, it's always comfortable and not one of those ridiculous places where you have to yell your head off in order for your dining partner to hear you. Service is helpful and friendly. I really feel this place is the perfect mix of upscale and laidback - perfect for a dinner for two or with some friends.
There are a lot of great places to dine at in downtown Culver City, and Tender Greens continues to be one of my favorites. They have a great selection of ginormous salads, as well as 3 varieties of meats (or a veggie option) you can choose to have either on a plate or in a sandwich.
Both the steak and chicken sandwiches are delicious - the aioli is fantastic and they put just the right amount on there (dry sandwiches are the bane of my existence). The quality of the meat is great. Both the steak and the chicken are juicy and tender. The side salads are also all very good - love the dressings.
Love the ambiance as well! They have a bit of indoor seating but we usually opt to sit outside on the cute, dimly lit patio.
All in all, very good food & great atmosphere for a very reasonable price. Everytime we go back I'm always reminded how lucky I am to live near this awesome place!
I was feeling a little down after returning to LA after a visit to Portland where cute stores displaying vast arrays of cards, paper goods, homeware, accessories, books, etc abound. But then I came across Lundeen's. I should have known downtown Culver wouldn't let me down! Such a perfect selection of all of the above-mentioned goodies, housed in an adorable store with impeccable taste. Lots of great and unique gift options for everyone on your list (including yourself, naturally). Definitely a must-visit!!
