I love this place and not just for their congee. The food is reliable and affordable. Try the sha cha beef casserole! It's to die for. Also, their Buddha style veggies are also great!
Perhaps i wasn't too hungry that find morning when I was lucky enough to get a seat at the Clinton St. Baking Co. My sister had just flown in from SF and she requested this brunch place that is usually brimming with people. I actually can not recall what I ordered but I do remember there was a nice fluffy biscuit on top of the goodness on my plate. I'll come back for the biscuit.
This place is scrumptious. Their tender beef and curry is soul food to the core. They also have all day lunch specials if you want a sampling of what they have to offer. Order any of the curries and you won't be disappointed. Order their veggies as well.
This place is quaint, low maintenance and gets to the point. the menu is short and the food is fast and grubby. I have ordered all the no. 1 big bowls and some grilled pork chops and none has disappointed me.
If you want grubby food after a jaunt down broadway on a typical Friday, Saturday night/morn, this is your go to place for jook, fried rice and beef chow fun. Authentic or not, this place is always open and the service is quick.
I love Cafe Trieste. I am not beat generation aficionado; however, I love my coffee rich, with frothy steamed milk. There is an old world charm to the ambiance of this place. If you want good coffee, without the pretentious prices, come here for a classic cup of brew.
This is place is sooooo good! I've had the enchiladas, the burritos and the quesadillas here and they are cali-mex classics! I live in NYC now and when I come back home to SF, I make sure to stock up on my SF Mission style goodness! This place will not disappoint. Cash only!
I've actually never really had sushi on the sushi boats only because I lack self-control. I honestly did not come out of the restaurant "full" from my lunch there, yet I had already run up a modest $20 tab. The cheapest sets start at 1.50 and top at about $5 (if I am correctly recalling.) Since I am not a sushi connoisseur. I can not comment so much on the quality of the sushi... i am more a spicy salmon kinda girl and not a sashimi fan. On whether I will come back, I will probably order your safer tonkatsu bento the next time.
Where else can you get Vietnamese extra large #1 bowls with your Chicken Parm! This is a neighborhood mainstay with the grubbiness of any old fashioned diner. The cooks know you by name and the waiters are always friendly. I always order the Cheese steaks. So good! Remember they are closed on Tuesdays, but open relatively late in this sleepy section of the Richmond district. The prices are great and the portions huge.
I got into Soondooboo during the cold NYC winters; however, when I'm back in my hometown of SF and I want some home style Korean cooking, My Tofu house is the sure thing! Good lunch specials too!
