StretaPower Yoga
I honestly don't know how I let myself get talked into taking power yoga classes with the roomies. Both of them are very bendy, and while I've taken some drop in classes, I'm in no way as bendy as they are. That being said, I went along with them to the Streta Power Yoga studio for a class. Yikes! At first I was a little concerned, but after the class started and the instructor got things underway, I felt fine. They were very welcoming and helped me out with a couple of poses so I wouldn't kill myself. Very much appreciated!
Dahn Holistic Ctr
The yoga class we took at the Dahn Holistic Center was just what the doctor ordered. After a week of classes and work, I needed a break from reality. When one of the roomies suggested a yoga class, I was all over it. The center was very nice, simple, clean and serene. The class was a gentle flowing class with not a lot of people, which is a plus in my book.
Revolution Books
I'm not used to bookstores being so single minded in the type of books they offer, but what the heck. Revolution Books was exactly what I needed for class assignmen on communism. They were a goldmine of information from varying viewpoints, none of which I think I would have found elsewhere. I'm not into this type of thing normally, but for my class, it was a perfect fit.
Bikram's Yoga College Of India
Bikram Yoga was on the list of places to take yoga classes. When you're a student, you get some pretty sweet deals. Their classes were great- I felt relaxed and able to perform the moves with only minor adjustments from the teacher.
Tranquil Flame Yoga
The Shake Your Soul dance class at the Tranquil Flame Yoga was actually pretty fun. Don't tell my roomies I said that, or they'll hold it against me forever. We were supposed to take a yoga class, but somehow wound up doing this crazy, yet fun dance class instead. I don't know how I managed to get hooked up into all this, but it really was fun. Shhhhhh!!!
Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga
I've taken yoga classes with my mom at home, so when I made the fatal error of mentioning such a thing to my roomies, they insisted we all go and give various studios a try out. Yikes! Baptist Power Yoga had several classes of which we took one. It was really out of my abilities, but I went on. The instructor was nice enough to offer modifications which I appreciated.
Inner Voyage Book & Gift Shop
The Inner Voyage Book & Gift Shop is more of a pedestrian bookshop that anything else. I didn't find their seleciton of books to be anything out of the ordinary from other bookstores and felt their emphasis was more on the cutesy things they sold. Not bad, but I like my books straight up please.
Lorem Ipsum Books--RELOCATED
Ahh....this bookstore was a breathe of fresh air for me. This is the very first bookstore I visited upon my arrival to Boston. I was having bookstore withdrawals and needed a fix. Hallelujah for Lorem Ipsum! This is a decent size shop with books of every genre and a staff that went out of their way to show me around. I loved all the touches of whimsy in the store and have been back several times since landing. Great store!
Benefics New Age Book Store
I'm open minded. I accept that there are things out there we may not all 'know' about. I was introduced to the Benefics New Age Book Store by friends and loved it. They're dedicated solely to spiratual, astrological, tarot - that kind of thing. If you're into that, you'll love this store. The shopkeeper was a blast to talk to. I had lots of fun looking over every inch of the store.
Booksmith
I found the Booksmith to be not as friendly or welcoming as other bookstores I've discovered since moving up to Boston. Maybe it was just the mood of the day....the bookstore itself was well organized, but I just didn't get a good vibe as I was wandering the stacks. Maybe because I told the people there I didn't need help and just wanted to wander. I don't know....I just didn't feel welcomed there.
