My 4 y/o has been a patient of Dr. Gokey for over 3 years. We were referred to her by our neonatal cardiologist, but didn't have a PPO for the first year of her life.
My daughter has asthma, food allergies, and is a bug-magnet. We go into the office frequently, and have seen Dr. Gokey at Huntington when my daughter was admitted for asthma problems.
We balance traditional Western medicine with herbs, pragmatism and natural remedies. Dr. Gokey has been supportive of our choices to not give our daughter daily medication, although she highly recommended it. She respectfully discussed our point of view with us, and we agreed to disagree. That was 2 years ago. We still love her, & respect her opinions regarding our daughter's care. And we still discuss alternatives with Dr. Gokey when we see fit.
We have NEVER had a problem being seen... same day appointments are not infrequent for us because my daughter can crash quickly. The phone nurses are great; they call back, listen closely, and escalate the call if necessary. When Dr. Gokey is examining my daughter, she actually talks to her and spends more time with her than most doctors I've ever seen. She also addresses all of our concerns as parents -- sometimes we have a list of questions to ask. My daughter loves her so much that she has fabricated illness so she can see her during our illness dryspells. When my daughter was admitted to Huntington Hospital, they called Dr. Gokey to the hospital and her prompt presence greatly eased our tension & fears.
The office staff is not the best, but we don't sweat it. Billing people are hard to reach. The medical assistants are fine for the most part. We've never been late so I can't comment on that policy.
It's worth it to deal with the administrative headache to have a great MD who will warmly, intelligently help you navigate childhood physical & developmental challenges.
PROS: Dr. Gokey is a fabulous MD.
CONS: Administative headaches.
