This place is REALLY tiny and packed with tourists, but I have to admit that their ice cream is very yummy. Now that the greenway is done, I would recommend getting some ice cream and then heading across the seat to sit down. I suggest trying the grasshopper pie - mint ice cream with oreos and chocolate chips. Yum.
I had walked by this place a million times and always wanted to go in, but when I finally did I was a little disappointed. I expected there to be a great wine selection, but there really weren't a whole lot of choices or a lot of wines that I recognized. I ended up buying a decent bottle but it was a little overpriced. I don't think I would go back here considering there are so many other great wine shops in the area.
This liquor store is on the way to my friend's apartment so I stop in here pretty frequently. It doesn't have a huge selection, but it does have a pretty good selection of beers along with all of the hard alcohol basics you could want. It has a decent selection of wine, although I've never purchased any here. Stop in for the convenience factor, but I wouldn't really recommend it for browsing.
Sibling Rivalry is really different in that the menu actually consists of two menus created by a pair of brothers, who prepare competing appetizers and entrees using the same ingredients. It's a great idea and makes the restaurant stand out in the crowd. The food was good but not great - I had the filet and ordered it medium rare but it came out medium well. Other than that, everything was very tasty. The markup on the wine was kind of extreme and it was hard to find a reasonably priced bottle that was still decent wine. All in all, I would consider returning and giving this place another shot to impress me.
If you're looking for a really greasy lunch right off the grill, go check out Scali. It's not much to look at inside, but they have a huge menu of grilled sandwiches, subs, burgers, etc., and they also do regular deli sandwiches in addition to entrees. I had a grilled ham and cheese they was very tasty, but if I had known how much butter would be smothered on the bread I would have stayed away from the grill. I've never ordered breakfast here, but they have an extensive menu of breakfast sandwiches that are equally greasy (and smell delicious).
Paramount is perfect for a Saturday or Sunday morning with some friends. They make a mean omelette and HUGE tasty pancakes. There are no waiters, though - you get in line at the grill when you walk in and wait to grab a table until you have your food. Don't try to "save" a table - I've seen people do it and the staff was not pleased. It's a little unconventional, but the food is worth it.
I've been to Sel de la Terre for lunch, dinner, and just for drinks and have really enjoyed it each time. They do a really nice lunch with sort of fancy sandwiches, and when the weather is nice there are tables outside. The bar area is pretty small, but it's generally not very crowded so you can easily grab a table. I went for dinner during restaurant week and was very impressed - the service was excellent (which is surprising considering it was restaurant week), as was the food. They also have a great martini list - I would highly recommend the french kiss.
This store is pretty small but they always have a great inventory of trendy, designer clothes which I always want, even if they're pretty far out of my price range. I can generally only afford something here when it's on sale, but you need to get there quickly because it gets picked over fast. They also have cute jewelry, which is slightly more affordable. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the location on Charles in great especially considering there are some other cute boutiques in the area now.
I just recently went into this store for the first time and am now wondering why it took me so long to check it out. Kiehl's has really amazing products, particularly their body lotions. I highly recommend the one with aloe and oatmeal - it makes your skin incredibly soft. This store has a great spot on Newbury so it's really convenient if you live in the city or are just coming in to the city for a day of shopping.
Bell in Hand is one of my favorite places to go in Boston. It's a great place to go four some beers on a summer afternoon because they open their windows in the front room. On weekend nights, it gets really crowded and you'll often have to wait in line, but the crowd is generally fun (especially when there's a band), and the drinks aren't too expensive. They used to have karaoke on Tuesday nights but the last time I was there it wasn't happening, so I'd recommend calling first if you're going to sing.
