Did you just go to the hardware store and find they didn't have what you needed? Get thee to Pills. They have a huge selection of hardware, chain and most important to me, gaffer's tape - real gaffer's tape not duct tape. This place is awesome.
What's neat about Fire Opal is a bunch of the stuff is one-of-a-kind so your unique new jewelry/clothing/art is actually unique and not just what everyone with similar taste will have. I get gifts here often and they are always well received.
This small, independently owned housewares shop is where all the neat kitchen and bath stuff you can't find anywhere else is. Egg poaching pan? Check. Hanukkah cookie cutters? Check. Inexpensive pastry bag with 5 different tips? Check. I have learned that I save time if I just go here first instead of going to 3 big box stores and then going here. The prices are maybe a little higher but they've got it all and are more than willing to cheerfully help you find it
I don't miss much about NYC but this place definitely makes the list. The cupcakes are the best I have ever had and I am not ashamed to say that I actively miss them.
I confess, I'm a bit of a hippie at heart. I think that's what draws me to Delhi. They always have the most beautiful hand-blocked Indian blankets. Now I just need to convince my husband that he doesn't hate paisley...
While I do get my pup groomed elsewhere I frequent Cause for Paws for cute fun stuff for her. They have a great selection of toys, collars, baked stuff and (though it's not my thing) clothes.
This place is so small and yet has a huge selection. I can always get a good Sake here. They also have free wine and beer tastings almost every weekend. What's not to love?
Irving's is a tiny little shop right near the Devotion school and I imagine that it is a popular after-school stop. Full of toys, candy and a kind woman who, rumor has it, attended Devotion herself many moons ago this place feels like stepping back to a time before crazy big-box stores. I love it!
I know that sounds obvious but this place keeps some odd hours. Basically, I walk by and sometimes they are open and other times not and there is no discernible pattern. That not withstanding, Pixi has some of the cutest, most unique stuff I've found in Boston. The prices are usually reasonable and did I mention it's super fun?
This place doesn't get the credit it deserves because it's right down the street from Stingray but it's a great little shop, the art is good and the people are so nice!
