I ate Sunday brunch at Starlight on May 10, 2009, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The food was wonderful and the service was friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive. I had Eggs Benedict, and it was fresh,rich-tasting, and complemented with just the right amount of lemony hollandaise sauce that was unquestionably made-from-scratch. In fact, I doubt that they use anything but "scratch" there, because there was nothing pre-fab about any of it. I substituted a fresh fruit salad for the potatoes that are the usual side dish, but only because I was trying to keep somewhat of a cap on the calories. My companion had the crab-meat omelet and was equally impressed. This is one of those places that is many cuts above what you expect to find in a small southern college town- a real jewel; far from giving the impression of being a student hang-out, I suspect it is more a place where the professors would hang out instead. It is definitely the place to go for any special occasion, or just when you feel like really treating yourself. All of the restaurant was clean and fresh, and there was the unexpected and welcome addition of a live pianist, whose skillful playing in the background was a classy addition to the experience without being intrusive. This is a place to seek out, definitely. Only the fact that I don't live in Greenville would keep me from making it a weekly (or more!) place to visit!
