H Salt Esquire Fish & Chips
Price is kind of high, but it's a pretty good little seafood place. Serves everything a typhical seafood place would: fish & chips, fries, breaded shrimp, hushpuppies, breaded fish by itself. They put little containers each full of tartar sauce or vinegar, and they wrap the containers in paper with what looks like newspaper printings. The downside is that the location is kind of hidden and because they have no sign on the road they might be a little difficult to find; plus the restaurant ifself is kind of small on the inside, there's only 3 or 4 tables in the place, it's more of a take-out joint. Otherwise, the food is pretty good and it's great for, say, family nights or something like that.
Mega Video
Good prices, friendly staff, and they get movies earlier than most other video stores. They have a place towards the back of the store for adult movies which is closed off to children with a big warning sign. They also rent out video games too, and they now SELL movies as well. The biggest problem I've had with this place is that we sometimes get movies that are covered in scratches so badly that they sometimes don't play in the DVD Player at all. Other than that, Mega Video is a pretty great store if I may say so.
GameWorks
Everyone on this page who says Gameworks is a lot of fun is NOT lying! The place is covered on both floors with all the games you can play, and it also has a gamecard which you can add on to by paying at a machine. There is a ride in the middle of the place that takes people up and down. Upstairs, there are four pool tables that allow children to play, a projection TV, a restaurant that you can grab some food at (they serve some pretty small portions however), and even a bar for the adults. You can also make party reservations at Gameworks for birthday parties and what not. It is also conveniently located inside a massive shopping mall (Ontario Mills, to be specific). Gameworks has fun written all over it, take it from someone who's been there 2 times.
Gold Coast Hotel & Casino
Not a bad place. The hotel rooms are very homey and comfortable with big A/C units, huge wide-screen TVs, extra storage for clothing and suits/dresses, and a great view of Vegas. The shower is GREAT. The service is good (aside from the fact that the maids don't come and pick up your dirty towels and washcloths like they should, other than that: excellent). The room service menu seemed pretty cheap (even though I didn't buy anything), and the number of channels you get isn't too bad. To summarize, I had a great time staying at the Gold Coast Hotel, not sure if I'll go back though.
On The Border
The food is world class, from the salsa to the beans. They have a grilled enchilada that is served with beans, rice, and a lime-like dipping sauce; and they have mashed potatoes with pepper-jack cheese as an alternative to ANY side dish. So why did I not rate them "world-class", you may ask? Simply because of the poor service. When our food was ready to be served, the waiting team only brought half of our table their meal, leaving the rest of the table to wait and watch us eat. Afterwards, they brought everyone else's food except for 1 person, who had to once again wait. Then, somebody at our table asked one of the waiters for a child's cup of milk. The beverage took a while to get to the table, and the waiter had to be reminded a 5th time before the milk finally came. Our meal was not unsatisfactory, however, I believe On The Border needs to improve the way they wait on their customers.
Panda Garden Buffet
There's no reviews for Panda Garden? I can tell you, there should be. I have been going to this restaurant ever since the buffet I used to like went out of business. The place appears to be family owned; and if it's not, then the owner is great at hiring nice employees. Panda Garden consists of great service, great decoration, and great food. The food bar consists of excellent Chinese and (some) American cuisine, along with pasta, rice, and soups. There is also a salad bar, a sushi bar, and a dessert bar with pastries and a lot more. Trust me, Panda Garden Buffet is exquisite.
Johns Incredible Pizza
The first time I went to John's was back during the first few months that it was opened. We had to wait awhile in line, but when we finally got out, we realized it was well worth the wait. The food bar not only serves pizza; but also pasta, salad, chicken, dessert, and many other delicious items. Their dining rooms include: a sports room, a quiet cabin room, a theater room that plays cartoons, and what looks like a beach/surfing room. We ate in the theater room where, except for one bothersome kid, we enjoyed sitting in. Then we went out to the arcade. The arcade includes a spinning ride, bumper cars, bowling, shooting, golf, and of course... games. The only downside was that all the stuff charged tickets, and when we ran out, we had to go to a machine to pay for more tickets; but other than that, we had fun! Since then, I have gone back a couple more times. Those last couple of times, the food has been up to the same quality that it was the first time, which is why this place cannot be 'world class'. Is John's Incredible Pizza the BEST? No. Is it better than Chuck E. Cheese? Yes, it is. Take it from someone who has eaten at both places.
Portofino On The Park
I have been living in these apartments for about 7 years now, I have been through many managers, many neighbors, and many other experiences. When I first moved in,the property was called "Parkview", the neighborhood was very quiet, the property was owned by Lion (or Lyon?) Management, and the management team did a great job at keeping up the property. Then the property was taken over by MG Properties, which we then received a new management team. Then the property went downhill- the worst possible neighbors (complete with screaming, bratty children) moved in, the maintenance team became lazy, and our apartment quickly began to fall apart. Since then, a new manager has taken over, some of the screamers have moved out, and the maintenance team is a little less lazy now. These improvements, however, do not change the fact that the condition of our apartment is still poor. Our source of A/C is a wall unit with barely enough strength to go beyond the hallway, our source of heat is a gas furnace that smells when it is turned on, and the windows and glass-sliding door rattle excessively when the floor above is shaken. I wish the management team luck in improving the property, but until then I wouldn't recommend that anybody move in.
