My wife and I, in Dayton on vacation, visited Pacchia last night. We were very impressed. Our appetizers, dinners and desserts were creative, fresh and well prepared. The room had a great atmosphere for the live jazz group that played. The staff was attentive but unobtrusive. If you're in Dayton and you like good food and good jazz, I highly recommend Pacchia.
Blind Bob's is a tavern in the Oregon district of Dayton. My wife and I recently went there for a late lunch. The food (including several vegetarian options) was carefully prepared, fresh and tasty. The atmosphere was relaxed (a live but not noisy room). There was even a jukebox of tunes ranging from classic jazz to modern rock.
Blind Bob's is everything I'd want in a bar and more.
My wife and I went to the Neon because we were vacationing in the Oregon district of Dayton and wanted to see an independent film. The rocking chair seats were very relaxing. The theaters (2) are intimate, like screening rooms with good sound and picture quality. The concession prices are fair (no steering you toward the biggest size of popcorn here) and the staff are very nice.
If you like independent film in a comfortable atmosphere, check out the Neon.
I'm in IT. My old boss used to rave about Micro Center so I thought that I'd give it a try. They do have a nice selection of name brand computers, accessories and components (for those who want to roll their own). However, I can't give them five stars. Their salespeople push the extended warranties constantly (not worth it, by the way). They also push certain "special products" (debating you to try to convince you to buy the Micro Center recommended anti-virus even though you're in the field and you've done your homework). I understand that the poor salespeople live on commission and I gladly give them their share. However, I could do with a lighter hand.
Syms used to have a store at Big Beaver and Rochester Road in Troy. Unfortunately, they closed it (probably because of the poor economy). Still, it's worth the trip to go to their Southfield store to buy discount clothing. They have a huge selection of quality clothes at reasonable prices than any other discount clothier in the area. The staff is nice (not pushy). They do a good job with alterations. They are the best.
I have the good fortune (sometimes misfortune when I'm on a diet) of living near Mannino's. I grew up in an area with several good Italian bakeries and Mannino's tops them all. They have Italian classic cookies and cassata cake. However, they also do great non-Italian stuff (my wife's favorite chocolate cake; she's very picky). The staff is pleasant and I never end up waiting too long. Mannino's is definitely worth checking out.
Royal Indian Cuisine is my second-favorite Indian restaurant; they actually do some dishes (Navrattan Korma, for example) better than my favorite, Ashoka. The food is consistently good for both dining in and carrying out. They seem a little faster than Ashoka and the staff is very cheery with good senses of humor. Royal Indian Cuisine is a very good choice for Indian food in the Troy - Sterling Heights - Warren area.
I used to see Dr. Nowak before my insurance changed and I moved to the other side of town years ago. Now, my insurance has changed back and I've moved closer so I'm going to see her again. I can't say enough good things about her. She is a technically superb diagnostician, sympathetic and a great listener. She seems very good with patients from children to elders. I have had several ENTs over the years and she is the best without doubt. I recommend her highly.
As someone who is particular about his hair, I was delighted to find Studio 9 right in my backyard. My stylist, Kelly, is skilled, fast and has a pleasant personality. The front desk staff is courteous and professional. The prices are very good for the value you get. Studio 9 even reminds you of your appointments by email! I highly recommend Studio 9.
This is my favorite Kroger in the Sterling Heights - Troy area. It is large. It has an ample selection of organic produce and groceries compared to other Kroger stores. The sections of the store are well organized and the layout is easy to remember. When I want to shop at Kroger, this is the one I go to.
