I didnt want to give any stars but it makes you give at least one...
I talked to an Augie at Augie's All Service and we agreed on a price for replacing my A/C system with a Carrier system that would allow me to get the state energy rebate. The next day he called me and said that his distributer had just raised prices on the brand I wanted and it would cost $900 more (well informed? or cheat?). I told him I would talk to my wife and get back to him. Augie called back 5 minutes later and said that it was ok, he had qouted me a price and he would stand behind it and still do it for that price. We agreed and he came out the next day and we signed an invoice/contract for a Carrier system to replace mine. I gave him a check for $4000 that day to buy the system. The next day he called me trying to get me to give him cash instead so he wouldnt have to wait for the check to clear. I told him it was fine to wait. A few days later he showed up unannounced and installed a Payne (cheaper, lesser brand that I had said no to specifically) heat pump in my backyard while no one was home. When I got home I saw it wasnt what we agreed on. I tried to contact him, and after a while he returned my call and said sorry but the other was more expensive, but that he knew we had agreed on the other brand and he would return the Payne and put in the Carrier we had agreed on. It took him an extra two and a half weeks to return it and start on the right system, during which time he promised completion at least two seperate times and arranged to come do work four seperate times, but never showed up any of those times and didnt meet any completion promise. This week he finally showed up, again unannounced and started installing the correct system. He came out four days this week and each time he came out he couldnt give me a time or call me in advance like he had said he would, so I had to have someone waiting all day and the earliest he showed up was 4pm and the latest 6pm on each of those days. He even told me he needed more money upfront now to help pay for the equipment even though I had given him all I was supposed to and the rest was due when he was complete. Once he was done I told hime that because of the delays caused by his attempt to install the wrong system that I couldnt get the state rebate because there was no more rebate money left in the state program but that I would still apply for it. I told him I was going to hold back the last $1000 (same as the rebate he cost me) but would still pay it to him if I got the rebate or if the rebate had actually run out prior to when he would have or should have finished (at least based on his promises). He didnt think that was fair and said he was just going to take all the equipment back, and I had to call the police to the house to stop him. I am now going to be forced to either sue or be sued (which will undoubtedly cost more than the $1000). I finally offered to give him half ($500) and let him out of the 1yr free labor and 2 yrs free service he promised in the contract (since I have no desire to have him back to my home). He wouldnt agree and didnt care that he left my carpet dirty and the paint around the work area gouged. I am feeling absolutely cheated by this guy and am forced into a situation where I can either just pay money he caused me to lose by trying to cheat me or go to court and pay what will be undoubtedly more in order to stand up to a unreliable contractor that tried to cheat me by installing a cheaper version of what I had paid him for and ended up costing me $1000. Watch out
These guys were awful and unfriendly. They would give any answer about your problem without any sort of analysis and then quote you a huge amount for work and parts you don't need. I had to repeatedly show them things they should see or look at as a plumber because the first priority for them was to spend as little time on site as possible and quote you an outrageous amount for repairs you don't need. They told me I needed a pressure relief valve (and many other things) because I didn't have one, but in reality I did have one (it was bad) but they never even looked. When he was done being on the phone for over 30 minutes he said he needed me to sign his paperwork, I asked him to wait a minute since I was on the phone with the water company he sai no I am leaving. I followed him to the truck to try ro sigh and get a copy of he invoice and that is when he verbally assaulted me and threatened and tried to run me over with his company truck (Quincy is his name).
