I was amazed at the selection at Tops. Whereas most self-serve yogurt shops have about 6 - 8 flavors of yogurt plus toppings. Tops has double the amount of yogurt flavors and all of the toppings that the other guys have. Plus the yogurt is really good. They have a frequent buyer card (a must for yogurt lovers), and a nice atmosphere where you can sit inside or outside. This is by far the place with the best selection of yogurt in the area.
Places like this are a rare find. Gourmet dining right in the neighborhood. This is a bistro type of place. I hope is does well in Greenhaven and is around for a long time. The food is excellent. You don't have to go to downtown/midtown for great food. Get it right here. The atmosphere is also fabulous. It's not noisy and full of partyers looking for the next drink, dance or hook-up (like the midtown vibe as of late). It's just great food, great atmosphere and a pleasant dining experience. The only down side was the service. It was really slow and the waitress seemed a bit forgetful, but apologetic. I'm usually a big stickler for service and will not return to a restaurant with bad service. However, despite that, this place will get my return business and hopefully improve as the new owners settle in.
This is the best shopping in South Sacramento. Nugget market really makes the grocery shopping experience a pleasant one. The store atmosphere is lovely, clean, bright and actually kind of luxurious. The selection of natural hair and skin care products is rivaled only by the natural food stores. This is also the only place to still sell seeded watermelon (a favorite of mine). The produce people will help you pick out the best melons. The meat counter folks will make reccomendations based on your preference. The wine/beer people can reccomend selections based on your criteria. Every one who works here is really helpful. I don't find the prices on most standard items to be more expensive than other full service grocery stores, but this is definitely not the cheapest place in town to shop at.
After his first lesson my son commented "I learned alot of stuff today." A truer statement can not be made. Combine martial arts, gymnastics, music and lessons in Portugese all in a 1 hour class. That's what you get here. The teachers are patient and skilled. It gets really hot in the summer (no A/C) so dress lightly. Try this place out if you have high energy kids. You can try your 1st lesson for free.
If you like old fashioned diners with good, down home food and no pretense - then this is the place for you. It's one of the few diners in Sac where you can get grits for breakfast. This one is the best of the three Stagecoach places. I'd recommend it for breakfast anytime. I haven't had any other meal here.
This is really a neighborhood gym. The place is small compared to most 24 hour fitness gyms. It used to be privately owned and then was bought out by 24 hour. It's not as "meat marketish" as most 24 hours that I've been to. A lot of mature patrons go here so the atmosphere is more civilized, and people here tend to be more polite, clean and respectful of other patrons. If you live in Greenhaven/Pocket it's an okay and convenient place. I, however, turned in my membership card and joined CalFit.
My little son and I go here almost every Saturday for breakfast. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. He gets the pancackes w/ sausage and fruit. I get the 2 eggs and toast + coffee. We spend about $12 incl. tip.The coffee is excellent. The staff is very friendly and have greeted us even as we exited our car. They have outdoor seating in a little "garden area" with a fountain. My family loves homey breakfast places with good food and no pretense. This is a great one.
Shop here. Organic milk and many organic products at reasonable prices. Large selection of wines at reasonable prices. Specialty foods and more. Pretty much everything at this store is really good.
If cost is not a huge concern for you then shop here. It's baby/child heaven. I bought a new bedroom set for my pre-teener. They have quality furniture that will last until your great-grandchildren are babies. If you want to save $ in the long run, I'd recommend getting the type of furniture that grows with the baby - from crib to toddler bed to twin bed option or add on. The sales people were friendly and helpful, once they finally got around to helping me. They really spend all of the time that you need explaining the different options, prices, etc - thus the wait to talk to one.
I bought some furniture in the store but was also clued in, by the salesperson, about their warehouse clearance sale. This sale is GREAT. If you can afford to wait until the sale, I'd recommend it. I got some great deals. Also - for slightly less spectacular deals, check out the outlet store around the corner. These are not factory seconds or damaged goods, just quality furniture that the store is no longer carrying.
Hubby and I went here for breakfast recently. The atmosphere is something akin to upscale homey. The food was great. The chicken fried steak was a REAL STEAK, not some cheap, tough cut of beef. The location is great for antique hunters, but a little tricky to get to if you don't know the neighborhood. But well worth the hunt.
