My husband and I moved to the Carmel area almost a year ago. In an attempt to get to know the area, I googled restaurants in Carmel and found this site and the reviews that were left here for McCarthy's. After reading the wonderful reviews, we made a trip there and have been going back religiously ever since.
My husband and I were there this past Tuesday, as we are almost every Tuesday for the "Two for One" burger special, and we witnessed an incident that prompted me to return to this site and share my thoughts. We were sitting nearby another couple who were completely rude and arrogant to their server. They complained about absolutely everything and despite the fact that almost every seat in the restaurant was filled, they were dismayed by the fact that there dinner didn't come out in what they would consider a timely matter. Having been a waitress myself, I am observant of the goings-on in a restaurant setting and noticed that this couple had already ate an appetizer and the salad which precedes their meal and then had the audacity to complain that they had been there for a half an hour and hadn't received their dinner yet. I guess they overlooked the fact that within that half hour, they had already eaten twice. They proceeded to complain and cause a scene to the point where after they had left, most of the patrons were speaking from table to table about how arrogant and rude these people were.
The reason I felt so compelled to share my thoughts pertaining to this matter is because so many people fail to realize the abuse that waitresses/waiters and even bartenders take from some people. Many people view them as being uneducated and beneath the status quo and this is just untrue. At McCarthy's, in particular, I know that most of the servers and bartenders are college graduates that carry one or more degrees. To see arrogant people as I did this past week treat their server as though she was uneducated and to demean her in front of a room full of people was absolutely disgusting.
This restaurant has been, in my experience and in the experience of friends and family who also frequent here, nothing less than delightful. I have never had a problem with the food or the employees. It was really sad for me to witness the mistreatment and disrespect of a person and a place that is truly representative of the motto that most restaurants and pubs strive for as being a "place where everybody knows your name."
As a side-note and suggestion to all who read these reviews; take notice of the grammar (or lack thereof) of the negative reviews you see below. Then take notice of the positive reviews written below and how each is written with appropriate grammar. This goes to show you that educated people appreciate educated people. (Let's remember to give credit where credit is due!)
