I took my 13 1/2 year old (indoor) cat in early Sunday morning for an abdominal ultrasound which was recommended by my local veterinarian. My cat was very ill and I was afraid she was about to die. Upon reviewing my cat's medical records, the vet at RBVH lectured me about not having my cat's rabies vaccinations up to date. I explained that my cat was an indoor cat and had never been experienced to wildlife, but I also took full responsibility for not being up to date with her vaccination. She proceeded and informed me that out of date vaccinations were illegal in the state of New Jersey and if my cat happened to bite someone there, they would have her euthanized, cut off her head and send it away for testing. This is the last thing one wants to hear when their cat is extremely ill and ready to die.
RBVH may be a reputable animal hospital, but I was extremely disappointed with their bedside manner. Perhaps this was a fluke. I did take my cat early Sunday morning, so perhaps the more professional staff works normal business hours.
