Arhaus is a cool alterntive to the PB, Crate and Barrel and West Elms of the world. One-of-a-kind ethnic-looking pieces from their "Relics" line, interesting copper topped tables (dining or not), chairs of nearly every shape and size, Arhaus is not a place where you furnish an ENTIRE home (unless you want it to look like an exhibit of things gathered on your world tour), but it is a place to pick up great quality, interesting and slightly unusual pieces. They offer design service, for free, that will come to your home and help you figure out what pieces you might need for a space. All upholstered pieces can be customized.
Zimman's is mecca for the home decorator in search of the perfect upholstery, drapery, or accent fabric. From luscious embroidered silks to basic chenilles, it's all here, spread over two enormous levels, with an additional two levels of customizable furnishings upstairs. The trim selection will blow your mind. Dupioni silk is stocked in 140+ colors. The most amazing thing about Zimman's is the staff - not only will they help you find several amazing options for your project, they'll cut you an 1/8 yard sample (you do have to pay for them, but it's inexpensive to get 1/8 yard of even the most spendy fabric), and then be able to find that exact same bolt of fabric weeks later when you've finally decided what to use. Yes, it's in Lynn, which isn't exactly central or desirable, but it is DEFINITELY worth the trip!
While this is a lovely place for a special date, I went here with a group of girlfriends and had a great time as well. They're set up for intimate dining (at tables for two by the window looking over the green area in front of the hotel), or groups (at larger, but still intimate, tables) equally well. We all enjoyed the five-course tasting menu. If you go this route, just let the chef determine the courses from among the options - they'll flow together really nicely. Service is impeccable - not too rushed or too slow, and the sommelier is very good, and can recommend a great wine (or two...) for the meal.
Homey, family-friendly Tex-Mex spot - good margaritas, and solid tex-mex food. The tortilla flats are delicious. Friendly staff and charming, albeit slightly kitschy, decor.
Get a Super Burrito and it'll last you two meals, easy. Options galore, including vegetarian, but my favorite is the chicken mole. Spicy but not so much that you can't enjoy the burrito. It's definitely a takeout place, even though there are a few wobbly tables in the joint.
Smack dab in the middle of Old Town, this is a classic pub atmosphere with great bar food (the cheese fries are to die for) and live music (but only downstairs, so you can still hang out in a place where it's possible to have a conversation upstairs). Good hangout, beats Coopersmiths hands down.
I still dream about the buffet lunch at Toy's Thai. Perfect for the student budget, and you'll never leave hungry because you can just keep eating until you pop. And it's GOOD, too! Authentic, flavorful, and they'll customize spiciness so every palate at the table is pleased. As a side note, they do catering, too. Best wedding reception I've ever been to was catered by Toy's.
There are tables and chairs inside, but really, this is takeout Thai. And it's pretty good, all things considered. They'll customize your dish any way you like, which is nice for those of us that love Pad Thai but don't want (or can't eat) the shrimp that usually comes on top. Vegan/gluten-free/etc., all have options here.
Nancy and the rest of our staff have handled our insurance needs since we moved to Boston. First, it was car and renters, and now we've become homeowners so we've moved to that with her as well. She's easy to work with, knows her stuff, provides you with all the information and rate quotes you need to make a decision, and even handles the little stuff like sending your license plates via courier so you don't have to wait for them to come in the mail.
The Armadillo is OK. I mean, it's basically solid, but it's not anything special. It's great for groups, since it's a huge place, and relatively cheap (so there's no hassle when sorting out the bill at the end of the night). The refried beans are really flavorful, and sometimes I think they're the best part of my meal (which really isn't how it should be).
