Great place to take your dogs!!! I've been out here to the beach area in the summer but didn't realize they had trails and dog parks until recently. Definitely, try it out! I've also heard they do rentals for things like birthday parties and reunions.
Don't forget: it's $2 per person to get into the park!!!
This store, despite its apparent lack of organization, has the BEST selection of sunglasses in town. Forget those sunglasses hut places in the mall, the owner of the store knows his stuff and can get many rare styles ordered from all over the globe just for you! From well known brands like Ray-Ban and Spy to cheap and fun shades, they have it all... no joke. I love this store... the large shoe section kinda freaks me out a bit, but this guy knows sunglasses!!!!
I used to love this store... I mean really love it. Then, as time went on, either I became more knowledgeable with jewelry quality or their inventory has taken a serious downturn. Now, that is not to say that they do not have beautifully made sterling pieces in their store They certainly do- that jewelry seems to located behind glass in cases. However, overall, their jewelry that is located around the perimeter of the store is highly suspect and looks cheaply made. That wouldn't be so bad if they priced it as such and didn't overcharge out the wazoo for what basically amounts to poorly made Chinese crap (no offense to the Chinese). I hope that their buyer reconsiders the direction of the store and either reduces the percentage of such jewelry in their inventory or at least lowers the prices so people don't feel cheated later on when it breaks or gives them a rash. No, I don't have a personal vendetta against anyone at this store. I really like it and hope it can stay here in Athens for quite some time.
The best bakery-hands down! Their desserts are extraordinary and I can honestly say I've never had better baklava or small cakes in my life. If we are in Atlanta, I always make a point to stop in and stare at the rows of delicacies... it takes for ever to choose something to take back home!
I can't believe I've forgotten to review the Last Resort until now!!! This is by far one of the best restaurants that is downtown. I love taking family from out of town here to eat because I know that there is always something for everyone and it will always be delicious. My husband and I have chosen this restaurant for several anniversary dinners because they are the only restaurant that we can depend on to be fabulous each time. The desserts are very good but I'm usually too full to eat one! The only drawback is that it can get rather loud when they are packed... which is often. The noise level is comparable to the Five and Ten, another delicious but loud restaurant.
Tarzan Tree Care has provided us with wood chips for our yard on two separate occasions and recently, they removed two large cedar trees from our front yard. Their workers are quick friendly, and professional. They left our front yard clean and tidy and the entire process was hassle free! If needed, I'd use them again in a heartbeat.
I have nothing but good things to say about Marvin's Shoe Shop. They have repaired at least 10 pairs of shoes, boots and sandals between my husband and myself. They resole shoes beautifully. I recommend them to family members and friends all the time. Give them a try next time you need shoe repair. Not sure if they can fix it? Just ask them to have a look!
I'll admit, I had my doubts about BBQ from a place in an older shopping center but boy was I surprised to find what is quite possibly the best BBQ in Athens. Their side dishes are fantastic and remind me of ones my mother makes. If you love southern food and amazing BBQ then you should give them a try. Also, the atmosphere is cute with a retro twist. Seriously, try it.
I love to look around Agora! They have an ever changing supply of vintage clothes, old furniture, records, and weird odds and ends. They have fairly high prices but sometimes you might get them give you a deal if you buy a few things there at once. Some of the booth owners do not budge at all on prices but it never hurts to ask. This is a really fun place to go and I recommend giving yourself a good 1/2 hour at least to see most of the stuff.
I have absolutely no doubts about giving Copper Creek "world class" rating as they have quite possibly the best micro-brewed beer on earth. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and the food is pretty good....especially the beef skewers. The staff is always friendly, as well. If you like beer, PLEASE, for the love of God do not order a damn Coors Light when you are here. In fact, if you do not like beer you should order one of the in-house beers because it's possible that all the other beer you've had in your life has just been BAD beer. Check this place out...I can't rave enough!
