New York, NY
I have been in NYC for three weeks on business, and was recommended by a co-worker to check out this restaurant for some authentic Italian food. It is a little pricey, but honestly, still worth it. In my three weeks here, I have gone THREE times, and had very good service, and great food!
Make a reservation for this place, if you're in town, and make sure to save room for a sundae at the end of your meal!
So, I have been to the Planet Hollywood in several cities now, and I am never quite sure what to expect, but this place was really great! Decor and gimmicks aside, our service and food was very good! Though I did have to wait about 30 minutes in line to be seated, and the food was a little pricey, I had a great expereince, and our waiter, Chris (thanks, if you're out there), did a really great job at catering to our every whim!
Being in town on business for three weeks meant I had a lot of time to choose different places to eat, so the fact that I went BACK in a city with thousands of restaurants (and to a touristy place, no less) says quite a bit. I enjoyed my expereince and will likely go back again, the next time I am in NYC.
It certinaly was not worth all the hype. I will say this - the food was good - I had a "Young Chicken Sandwich" and I thought it was very different and tasted good. But my rating has more to do with the TERRIBLE service we received. First off, when they say it's "cozy", they mean it. They jam as many people in there as they can, and it's not very comfortable.
Then, after sitting there for about 5 minutes, the waiter casually kind of "appeared" and just stood there waiting for our orders. No"hello" or pleasentries, he just stood there, and didn't even ask what we'd like to drink (so I had to remind my mother to order something after he took her food order and was ready for mine). And then, after ordering just a water to drink, we waited for 10 minutes with nothing, before I found our waiter and asked him to bring our drink. On top of that, he (nor anyone else) ever refilled our tiny glasses, not even once, in the 45 minutes we were there!
He brushed by our table one time and asked if everything was fine, I think (with barely enough time to respond), and the only other time we saw him was when HE was ready to take take our dessert order (long after we were ready).
The frozen hot chocolate was okay, and I saw some pretty cool looking desserts at other tables, but frankly, I would rather have gone to another restaurant. Not worth the hype or the cost, in my opinion. And in this city, there are plenty of other tourist restaurants I can go to - I would suggest you do just that.
