so we wanted to show our pilipino pride and were looking for those flags that people hang from their rear view mirror... we found them here and our cute little embellished flags have been suction-cupped to the windows of each of our cars ever since. we also bought a large flag that can be draped over one's shoulder a-la an olympic athlete. if they don't have your country of origin, they can order it! they also have those odd little banners that people hang in front of their house that bear the likeness of sylvester the cat and tweety or a big sunflower or a snowman, depending on the season, if that's your decorating style
this store is down the street from kua aina... they have a bunch of nikes and adidas that you can't find anywhere else. sometimes shoe fanatics lineup outside for exclusive and limited edition shoes.
the clothes chick buys (by appointment) and sells gently used "name-brand" clothes. i made the mistake of writing my contact info on their mailing list and now someone calls me every week to let me know that everything in the store is 50% off.
Went here for a work function. The private room was a tight fit for our party and we had to walk up a flight of stairs holding plates piled high from the buffet line. By the time we sat down, our food had gotten a bit cold. I'm not much of a buffet person. There was a good selection of Hawaiian food, maki sushi, a carving station, and typical mini-slices of dessert. If I ever organize an event at the Willows, I would want a room on the ground floor or outside if the weather is good so we could enjoy the garden type setting. Valet parking only.
Someone brought a tray of california rolls from Superb Sushi to the beach...it was not your typical imitation crab meat... it was the real deal crab meat. Puts other cali rolls to shame! So much creamier and subtly sweet. Can't wait to try their sashimi.
this little hobby shop has lots of stuff that guys love - remote control cars, fishing supplies, and more. the uncles who work here are knowledgeable about the merchandise and will be happy to talk story to you about the real big fish they caught back in the day. it's kinda a lot of inventory for a small space, but they'll help you find what you need. street parking only.
This crack seed store has big glass jars of li hing everything. Sometimes they have local pickled mango and they have plenty of local kine snacks. The couple who owns the shop are the cutest. They'll add li hing juice to your icee if you like... my mouth is watering!
You can get Filipino food turo-turo (point-point) style here...Choose two entrees from the steam table to go with your steamed rice. I've only gone for lunch when the food hasn't been sitting around so long as to form a skin. Their kare-kare was mostly vegetables in the peanutty sauce, but the pork barbecue stick was nicely marinated with a good fat to meat ratio. You can also pick up Filipino deserts here like casava and bibingka for a good price. There are plenty of tables to sit and eat, but I usually takeout. A couple of parking spaces out front, but you should back your car in because King St. is always busy.
ahi tamura's sauce poke - slightly sweet and so yummy. i craved this so much while hapai, but was worth the wait. i ate a half pound after giving birth to my daughter. they also have a small selection of cheeses, locally grown herbs and salad greens, natural and organic foods, and unique snacks. they have lots of wine, chilled beer on special, and liquor. i usually can't resist their serve yourself icee machine whenever i stop by.
please don't turn left into their parking lot going mauka on 10th ave...i've seen so many almost accidents on that corner because someone tries to squeeze into the driveway like that.
This little spot is located at the bottom of Palolo Valley. Honolulu's Finest - HPD can often be found stopping by for lunch. They have good plate lunches for a good price. I like their hamburger steak with onion brown gravy. Good takeout. They only have a couple of tables and no parking lot. Street parking is usually available if you don't mind a short walk.
