This place sucks. Yeah folks are polite, but I wouldn't say nice. Nice people don't try to nickel and dime you to death. Avoid this place unless you have money to burn or are super-concerned about your eyes. If you just want a routine eye exam and some lenses, this is NOT the place for you.
Yesterday was my annual eye exam. I went last year too and had forgotten how pushed around I felt last time I went there. My visit yesterday refreshed my memory.
I had to fill out all of the standard pre-exam paperwork, and one of the forms references two tests they can do for $79, but you could get them a la carte for something like $35 and $55 -- I do not remember specifically. While that's not a huge amount, it's a hell of a lot more than I want to spend on two tests that are completely extraneous for me and my basic nearsightedness. I checked the NO I DO NOT WANT THESE TESTS box, signed the form, and waited for the doctor.
I get my eye exam and of course the goddamn doctor wants to know if I want the tests. I say no. She said she would charge my insurance because this was a "medical issue" since I have "Floaters" and they could bill it separately meaning I wouldn't have to pay anything. I figured she knows more about medical billing so I agree warily figuring if this was one of the a la carte options and was maybe $30. Well then I go into another exam room for the second test and it's the receptionist/assistant doing it (it's the test where you look at a dot and faint, squiggly lines show up -- it tests your peripheral), and before she does the test I ask her if this is one of the tests from that form because I specifically checked that I DID NOT WANT TO PAY ANY EXTRA FOR MY EYE EXAM. "Is this going to cost me extra?" I asked, and she again said no, that my insurance would cover it so I wouldn't have to pay any money.
Guess what? OF COURSE I HAD TO PAY FOR THOSE. I had to pay my $50 goddamn medical insurance copay. Why would I want to pay my co-pay for my vision coverage, and then an additional $50 for my medical co-pay? And they knew I had vision and medical. THey should have know to at least ask about a co-pay, ESPECIALLY WHEN I SAID I DID NOT WANT ANY EXTRA SERVICES THAT WOULD COST EXTRA MONEY.
All they care about here is getting your money. They do not care about you telling them you don't want extra services, they only care about $$$. Heinous.
