I'm from Gainesville, FL. I go to Jacksonville to visit Hobby World to get Lionel model train items. After a half dozen visits, I started searching for places to eat there while in town to make the trip more worthwhile. Instead of just driving the 70 plus miles, getting a locomotive and driving back. Well, I like seafood; you know, good ol'e southern fried type of seafood, without all the thrills and frills of ambiance in the eatery. I don't care for all that "theme" stuff, it's nice, sure. But I'm not going to pay thirty bucks for a plate of food that really only costs ten because some decorator put a bunch of nick-naks on the wall to 'heighten' the experience of a meal. Just feed me, please and thanks.
Well, after many searches online for places in Jax that would satisfy, I kinda found this place by accident. You see, on Google earth, this particular Sam's St. Johns location doesn't show up with the little knife and fork icon, however it does show up on most search engines under "seafood restaurants in Jacksonville". I passed by this place two times, and remember catching the sign out of the corner of my eye. Didn't think about it 'till I did that online search, and after reading good reviews, looked 'em up on Google Earth, Street View, lo and behold it's that building I saw!
I told my brother about it and made a plan to eat there, after getting some train stuff, of course.
Mike was our server. I said to him I have been looking forward to this and hoped for the best.
We got the best. I'm telling you, I've eaten at a lot of fried fish houses, and there's always something messed up. This place did not disappoint. People around my brother and me must have been like, "what's up with those two" while we were "ummmm"ing and "wowing" and "yeaaah"ing about how good the shrimp, fish, scallops, clam strips, brocolli, green beans... everything was delicious. The fried was crispy and distinguished and the vegetables were colorful and tasty.
About halfway though our lunch, a Mother and her little daughter were just leaving and the little girl runs up to our server and gave him a hug. I asked if he knew who they were and he said he'd never met them before. Their meal must have been pretty good, also. You have got to try this place.
Thanks , Mike, you made my day and I'll be back. My brother wants to bring his wife there for supper. So, he'll be back.
Foxx, out. :) =^.^=
