Because we're looking at all the pricing options open to us for our wedding, I'm not against the idea of putting it on ourselves without the help of an official wedding planner. I've been doing a lot of legwork so we have all the information and can make good decisions. One of the rental companies I contacted, Event Rents, was willing to give me a coordinator to help budget and plan our event as a do it yourself. I'm intrigued by this and while it's still in the early planning stages, I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with the coordinator and was impressed by their product inventory that was available for renting. I'm now thinking this is the way to go to have control over what we want, yet having help at the same time.
After meeting with Hearts Bloom Event Design, I just didn't like anything they presented to us at all. I found their 'event' ideas to be trite and not at all what we were talking about. I actually had to ask my fiance if I wasn't clear when I told them we wanted simple and elegant. They presented wild, techno, over the top. We just didn't see eye to eye at all.
I appreciated meeting with Robyn of Impressive Weddings. She was a guest at a party my fiance and I were at and we got to talking. She is a woman who knows weddings and all the rigamoral that goes along with it. I was interested about her ideas on venues and all exclusive party rentals. We have booked an appointment with her in a few weeks that I'm looking forward to. If she's as informative during a scheduled appointment as she was during the party we attended, I'm sure we will be lead down the right path for our nuptials.
When we went to my brother's for the 4th of July, we wanted to add into the party atmosphere, so we rented a margarita machine from Slushers. For $145, you get the machine and the first batch of drinks. I was worried it was going to be difficult to use, but not at all. We had soooo much fun just making the drink, never mind about how delicious they were. I would rent from Slushers again without hesitation.
We just went to a family picnic over the 4th of July at my brother's house. They had it catered by the Karleskint Catering Company, which was a delicious alternative. I thought they were cooking, but they decided to go easy on themselves and have a catering company do it. The bbq and sides were just delicious. My fiance and I were so impressed, we took one of their cards and plan on placing a call to them to see what else they do. Our goal is to find a caterer for our wedding, so they may prove to be a viable option.
We stopped into Plaza Liquors to pick up a couple of bottles of wine to be hostess gifts at a dinner we were enroute to. The gentleman who ran the store gave us some great suggestions on a few wines, which turned out to pair perfectly with our meal. The hostess was thrilled and the other guests delighted with the quality of the wine we selected. The best part for us was that it wasn't expensive at all! Thanks to Plaza Liquors for knowing their wine.
I met with Collette at La Fete Weddings and was more than just a little surprised at the professionalism she displayed. For whatever reason, the planners I talked to in Ventura would hardly give me the time of day. Collette made me feel that I was very important from the moment I sat down. My fiance was with me and although not initially that interested, commented afterwards that he thought they could do a good job for us. I'd still like to see what my other options are, but will note that La Fete made a very favorable impression on us.
We stopped into the Whitehouse Florist to go over wedding flowers. I have to say, I was taken with the floral displays they had out but underwhelmed by the catalogues they were showing me for weddings. I don't want a traditional bouquet, I want something with sparkle and pizzazz. I'm having an hard time finding a florist who has experience with this. They all say they can do anything you want, but what I want is someone who's already done it and can give me the ideas. I would order regular flowers from them but they won't be doing my wedding flowers.
I saw the work done by Balloons by Chris at an event we went to and really liked the display. I hadn't considered balloons before, but was surprised at how elegant they looked. I contacted the company and had a very informative conversation with Chris and now have some basic pricing. Depending upon what we wind up with on venue will determine if we go the balloon route.
I've found many of my cake pans and molds through Trinkets 'N Trims. They have an online store through eBay, which makes it very convenient to pick and choose what I want from the comfort of my home. I've even gone so far as to buy some chocolate molds from them for Easter. What I really like (beside their diverse collection) is that if I have any baking or chocolate questions, I can ask them and I get an answer. They are so forthcoming with baking information, I find their willingness to go the extra mile and answer my questions to be very refreshing. I'll continue to support them.
