I adopted twin black and white kittens on May 15 2005. One of them began breathing weird, coughing and sneezing almost immediately. I took him to the vet and it turned out that he had a respiratory infection. It wasn't supposed to be fatal, but he was too young to give the strong medicine to. A few days later, my other kitten also picked up the infection. He was a few pounds heavier, so he was able to be given slightly stronger meds. Two weeks after I adopted them, the first one to get the infection died. Thankfully the second one survived. We went back to North shore, and they let me choose another kitten at a discounted adoption donation. 5 Years later, both the new kitten, and the twin that survived are happy and healthy. We should have been warned that the there was a respiratory infection going around. We would have taken more precautions and treated the kitten before it became deadly. I think that the shelter was understanding and I would adopt again, however before adopting, this time I would ask a lot of questions and make sure that the animals are not sick.
Now if only I could find a Chihuahua puppy here...
