This oasis of beautiful pottery is only steps away from the ocean in the community of Ocean Beach. Owner Isauro ??Izzy? Elizondo has been making pottery and sculpting for 30 years out of his studio. He's the kind of guy that makes you feel like a friend. The studio vibe is comfortable and 90% of what's in the studio is handmade by Izzy. His work is very detailed by using a wheel and his hands at a steady pace, giving complete attention to every piece from functioning to non-functioning works of art. Izzy imparts his knowledge by giving lessons to those eager to learn. The classes are small with six to eight students per session, once a week for six weeks. The array of beautiful pottery is breathtaking and this studio is unlike any other. Customers are welcome to walk in anytime Monday thru Friday (hours vary) to watch him do his magic or to just appreciate his art.
Eric Munro, owner and manager of TravelWise International, has been around the world five times and has visited 159 different countries. He has seen his fair share of adventure and has had some experiences most people can only dream of.
??I have traveled all my life, and I don??t intend on stopping,? says Eric, who opened TravelWise in San Diego back in 1962. He is currently planning his next trip around the world for 2015.
Eric??s father, a diplomat fluent in seven languages, first introduced Eric to travel as a young boy. He took him all over the world, taught him to speak five languages, and introduced Eric to what soon became his passion. Since then, he has put his worldly knowledge to good use by helping fellow travelers find their perfect destination.
Travelwise offers a variety of adventures and getaways for any kind of traveler. They specialize in cruises and international travel. The business also does inbound services for people coming from other countries interested in touring throughout the US. The Village Kitchen has been serving up some of the best Mexican-American Cuisine in Ocean Beach since 1987. They??re an old-fashion diner with old-fashion customs. Father and daughter working side-to-side providing quality and friendly service with a smile.
Liz Lopez has been working as a waitress, cashier and manager at her family??s restaurant since she was 18 years old. ??Lopez?, her dad, worked as a cook at several restaurants before he decided to open up his own place back in the late 80??s. It??s the quintessential classic diner. It??s a tiny space with around 15 tables plus some stools along the counter. The menu is extensive with specials galore. Omelets, breakfast burritos, chilaquiles, pancakes and roast beef are among the clients?? favorite dishes, although their ??Famous Huevos Rancheros? seem to be their all time best selling dish. Every day they see new faces as well as many familiar ones. They have their share of regulars that they know on a first name basis. Their coffee counter is just like it was decades ago, cozy and comfortable and they do their best to accommodate groups of all sizes. It??s great for anyone who wants to get together in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Seth Yates has been in business since 1998 and he has become a true icon in San Diego. Seth grew up in Ocean Beach, which is a unique community. One might say that O.B. is sort of stuck in the past and trying to fight off the present. That is exactly how I would describe Seth's Chop Shop.
It??s like no place on Earth, a mind-blowing spectacle that will leave you wanting more. It??s one of the most unique concepts I??ve ever witnessed, I kid you not. Seth's wildest dream came to life and you??re just about to walk right into it.
I??m not sure if it was the endless parade of vintage toys or the crazy bikes hanging from the walls or the bizarre paintings of fast food characters or maybe it was the jet black Cadillac sofa, but there is something very familiar about this place. Seth's Chop Shop is a one of a kind hair salon and tattoo parlor.
Seth has been cutting hair for over 27 years, tattooing for about 9 years and in business for over 14 years. He has been running the place since day one and specializes in pin-up style hair dos and vintage tattoos. Seth's stylists have their own unique twist and touch to give you the look you've always wanted. Each tattoo artist not only has many years of experience in the art of tattooing, but they??re constantly pushing the envelope of your average looking tattoo to guarantee you a truly unparalleled look and style.
It??s not often that class, talent, intuition and drive meld in such a way that not only stands out as a concept but also delivers as a business. Chapter One Tattoo is an great example of how lightning can strike at any moment fusing such qualities.
As you go in, you notice an extraordinary showcase of paintings adorning the largest wall. The place feels like an old mid-century English Gentleman??s Club with a few modern touches; classy and cutting-edge at the same time. The staff is talented and the service is top notch.
At the helm are the owners Tomas and Cash, two veteran tattoo artists with over 10 years of experience each. Behind every great man is always a great woman, store managers Michelle and Elena are the ones responsible for things running smoothly. Working amongst friends, as well as, a team that runs like a well-oiled machine is really the key ingredient in this equation. Their drive to keep pushing for excellence in every aspect of their work also contributes.
The shop has only been in business for about 2 months, but it??s evident that there are many chapters still to come for this gifted group of comrades.
IF you??re looking for a place to take your shoes that will transform them from grimy to gorgeous you need to go visit Alice. Her shoe repair store is located off of Bonita Rd., and she??ll be more than happy to assist you in all your shoe repair needs; and at great prices.
Alice has been in the business for 30 years and staying strong. Obviously that alone says something about the quality of work that is done there. I would also say it??s because of Alice, the owner who is very friendly who all to come into her shop. Shoe repairing is the family business she was brought up in and because it is something she is proud of she can go into work and enjoy her time there.
I even got to see a few different pairs of shoes she had worked on. The was a ladies pump that was in to be stretched, then there was a pair of cowboy boots, that had been shined to their brightest white and had some work done on the sole. They looked almost brand new!
During the process of looking around, I remembered that I had a pair of heels that had lost their cap. I asked how much it would cost to fix that and Alice told me it cost $10 a pair, that sounded cheap to me, the next day I went back and had them fixed!
They also do leather work, on all different types of bags, and make them look like new again.
So whether you??re looking for a shine, stretch, or something more complex in the shoe repair world, go see Alice, you??ll be so satisfied you??ll bring all your shoes and leather goods to her.
For lovers of collectables, sports, or the exciting possibility of an investment, you should think about checking out the sports card collection down at Clairemont Sportscards. They??ve got it all, from baseball, basketball and football cards, to bobble-heads and action figures of your favorite players. One of the coolest things in the store is a 1997 Super Bowl trophy replica signed by Brett Favre! It??s definitely a store worth checking out just to see all the sports memorabilia or just to chat about this week??s big game. They??ve been in business here for the past 14 years, but owners Bake and Dave have been collectors since they were kids.
The shop is full of all kinds of interesting history ?? they have millions of cards, many of which date back to the late 1800??s. Bake told me that cards were originally included as freebies in tobacco packs, as an added incentive, almost like a toy in a happy meal. After a while though, people started buying them for the cards rather than the tobacco. Nowadays, people are mostly in the store hoping to get a valuable rare card in one of the mix packs, but there are still a few people trying to add to their vast collections. Cards range in price from a couple bucks to several hundred, depending on the condition and rarity. In addition to cards and other sports related collectables, they have a full selection of all the supplies needed to keep up a collection ?? binders, plastic sheets, and card sleeves. So if you??re looking to start a collection or just hoping to get lucky and score a valuable card, stop by Clairemont Sportscards or check out our Ebay store under our Ebay ID name bakendave.
The store also offers a consignment service, so even if they don??t need what you have , they can probably find someone who does !

Are you ready to be surprised? All you need to do is stop for a minute or two and visit with Arjang at his magnificent store on Prospect. He will more definitely invite you for tea, which he makes in a golden original Russian samovar, and you will be rewarded with the most exquisite light hearted conversation.
This place is for people that take the time to enjoy. Enjoy the unique view of the La Jolla Shores from the second floor, enjoy the gigantic art collection, featuring names like Picasso, Chagal, Miro and Klee, enjoy the secret findings as you take the tour and you suddenly step out on a different street that the one you came in from. Yes, the store has two entries one on Prospect and the other one on Wall Street. All this space can barely contain its treasures, from the hand painted ceiling, depicting dancing dauphins to a vast collection of Asian and Caucasian rugs, all of the finest quality and the most seductive price.
It is a rarity in this day and age to find such abundance in beauty and art. Some of the masterpieces on the walls belong in museums, but they stopped their journey for the time being in this beautiful spot for the pure purpose of being admired and make the lucky visitor happy with their mere presence.
Finding a safe place where children can play is tough these days. Neighborhood streets are getting more crowded with fast moving cars and while parks and beaches are a great place for children and parents to enjoy the outdoors, there are risks there too. It??s easy to lose sight of a small child in these busy areas. Kiddie Playland, the newest play place for children, has just opened its doors to parents with children looking for a fun and safe environment to go to. The facility is spacious, clean, and fully equipped with toys for ages up to 5 years old. They even have a bounce house!
Marion Harper, Kiddie Playland??s owner is a mother of four-year-old and one-year old daughters, says she wanted to provide parents of young children a place to go to relax and enjoy spending time with their child, as well as other parents. She explains how parks can sometimes be difficult places to engage in conversation. Kiddie Playland is a more intimate environment for parents to socialize and safely monitor their children.
Kiddie Playland offers playgroups for families to join, as well as a sitting service during specified hours. There is even a small party room where birthdays can be celebrated.
