The spa also specializes in sugaring hair removal for those who prefer a more natural way of removing unwanted hair. Sugaring is an Ancient Egyptian method of hair removal that is beginning to gain popularity in the United States as a superior alternative to waxing. Salons and spas all over San Diego are beginning to add sugaring services to their menu as the demand rises. Sugaring is gentle on the skin and causes less pain and irritation during and after treatments. Sugar Paste is completely natural and non-allergenic - made solely from pure sugar cane, lemon juice, and water. It contains zero chemicals, additives, or fillers. You can eat it!
Not a fan of sugar? Not to worry. Swanky also offers the only permanent method of hair removal recognized by the American Medical Association in the form of electrolysis. This method uses an electrical current to destroy the root ensuring that unwanted hair doesn't bother you again. Take advantage of their free consultation with 15 minutes of free service to see if it might be for you.
Finally, if you're not in the market for hair removal and it's about that time to take a little break from your stressful life to get your "Swank" back, their are 30, 60, 90 minute massages with an option for hot stones that are sure to please. Using a customized blend of modalities, your tensions will be relieved, toxins will be eliminated and your energy level will be back to 100% before you know it.
With a combination of services ranging from facials, massages to airbrush tanning, all at under $100. It doesn't get any better this!

Shortly after getting into spear fishing, he opened a dive shop within his parents?? store. After 12 years when they sold their shop, he knew he had to start one of his own. With nearly 20 years of experience with various dive equipment, spear gun repairs and building, he opened his store in Ocean Beach in August of 2007.
Specializing in blue water hunting and big game spear fishing equipment, the Spear Shack has everything necessary to start, or maintain your spear fishing gear. Rocky??s Surf Shop, an Ocean Beach staple, was named for one of the first surfing dogs around when it opened in Ocean Beach in 1989. Specializing in many locally made surf boards, including the shop??s own brand Native, this shop showcases the intense surf culture of San Diego.
The owner, Doug Yates, has always enjoyed surfing. Upon graduating high school, he decided to do something involving surfing for a career, and he stuck to it. Doug moved from Central California to San Diego, and even lived in Santa Cruz and Hawaii before settling in Ocean Beach permanently. Upon deciding to stay in San Diego in 1998, he began working in a surfboard factory. When the factory owner took over Rocky??s Surf Shop, Doug transferred in. Today, he owns the shop and proudly displays mostly locally made fiberglass surfboards and products. He has used over 30 years of experience to create the shop??s exclusive 20-model surfboard line Native. Don??t see the board you??re looking for in the shop? Just let Doug know; he??s been making quality custom boards for years.
Aside from custom surfboards, Rocky??s Surf Shop offers many services from selling everything you need for surfing and apparel, to ding repairs. They even restore old surfboards during the winter season. For superior local surfing gear in San Diego, Rocky??s Surf Shop has the largest selection around.
Pine Tree Road Soap Shop began as a hobby for Jackie a few years ago. She got tired of her every day job and decided it was time to start her own business doing something she truly enjoyed, making soap and other beauty products. Pine Tree Road not only has products made by Jackie, but also carries all handmade products from mostly local California creators from San Diego to Stockton.
Each bar of soap is a labor of love, taking about a month to create. Most of Pine Tree Road??s soaps are made with all natural ingredients, such as plant oils and butters. With scents ranging from Chocolate Vanilla Coffee to Lemongrass and Sweet Orange, there??s something for everyone. In addition to their natural soap options, Jackie creates sugar scrubs, body butters and candles. While perusing the shop, other natural products such as lotion, lip balm and bath bombs are also found in a variety of scents and flavors. For shoppers not located in San Diego, fear not. Pine Tree Road Soap Shop is listed through the handmade online-seller database Etsy.com.
If you??re looking for an interesting gift, or just something to spoil yourself with, Pine Tree Road Soap Shop in Ocean Beach is a perfect place for anyone in San Diego, and across the country.
I??ve written this before, but it??s no less true: there are tons of tattoo shops in San Diego, and most are in PB! You could walk into any number of them and walk out with ink on you in no time. But finding a place that truly takes pride in doing custom work, to be deeply involved in the process and have a fun, relaxed atmosphere is an entirely different thing. Mum??s Custom Tattoo is one of those shops and excels at it all.
Located down Garnet Ave, a few blocks away from the main hub of bars and clubs, Mum??s opened two years ago after the current owners had gotten fed up working under other owners who were less than stellar. What that means is, they wanted to work with owners who actually knew the tattoo industry rather than some guy who sees it as just a fat paycheck. With five full time artists, the shop can do anything from a silver dollar sized piece to full body suits. The shop is clean, open and is way bigger than it looks from the outside; it nearly reaches all the way back to the street behind them!
The coolest part is the amount of creativity that is present in the shop. There??s framed flash art on the walls, but it??s more for decoration or reference. There??s also a sizable library open to customers who may want to browse and get the creative juices working for their piece. The artists want the customer to be happy with their new ink first and foremost, so all these references help to capture exactly what should be done! With a strong clientele and steady new business despite the bad economy, Mum??s Custom Tattoo is definitely a cut above the rest.
It??s hard to drive down the Coast Highway in Encinitas, and not notice Coastal Furniture. With a sprawling street front location, and more than ample parking, this furniture store offers its customers a very unique shopping experience, unlike most other stores in the industry. With gorgeous pieces displayed outside its front doors as mere samples of what lays behind the store??s doors, it??s easy to understand why Coastal Furniture has so many happy customers. Once inside, shoppers are greeted by store owners Meredith Jones and Tala Henson, two remarkable women who are not just furniture experts, but who also treat every customer like family. Word of mouth has traveled far and wide during the last 5 years since Meredith and Tala took over the business, and the word is that Coastal Furniture is the best place to shop in North County for unique, affordable, often one-of-a-kind pieces from around the world.
Coastal Furniture offers everything from custom sofas (with offerings such as suede, micro-fiber, and faux leather), and dining tables, to hutches, barstools, artwork, and unbelievable home accessories. The dcor here is everything from contemporary to tropical and everything in between. Most pieces are made in the USA, however Meredith and Tala have developed exceptional relationships with craftspeople from around the world, including India, Indonesia, and South Africa, making their inventory that much more vast in its selection.
Meredith and Tala also have wonderful connections with highly talented designers, and can offer services in the areas of window coverings, and overall design and aesthetic.
Please be sure to visit their beautiful showroom Monday through Saturday, 10 to 5, and Sunday, 11 to 5. You can also visit them online at www.coastalfurniture.us.

If you are fortunate enough to have a boat or yacht there are many fine businesses to service them. If you have a quality or classic boat, there is only one place in San Diego to get them serviced the right way. Since 1938 the Koehler family has operated the finest full service boatyard in the area. Doing haulouts from 20-70 ft, they provide crane and railway haulouts which is what you need if you have a wooden or classic boat. This is something that's very rare to find. As a testament to the care and quality found at Koehler Kraft a traditional Pacific Island handmade and carved transoceanic catamaran from New Zealand chose this boatyard out of anywhere to stop for refurbishment on it's arduous two year around the world journey.
They provide full restoration, bottom jobs on any hull, carbon fiber repair, fiberglass repair, and steel and wooden hull service. Koehler Kraft also makes about one custom built cold molded boat a year, taking their time to provide the highest quality rather than crank them out. Any supply from any brand can be ordered by them but they prefer Interlux Yacht paint as it is the top quality industry standard. Marina slips are for rent and do it yourselfers are free to work on their own boat if they so choose. Walking around their yard, I was impressed with not only the bustle of work going on and attention to detail of all of the craftsmen on their various tasks, but also that it seemed everyone here was enjoying their work. At Koehler Kraft, its not just a business, its a labour of love. Services are offered in both English and Spanish and they are open 7:30am-4pm Weekdays with a 5% discount for cash customers.
San Diego is truly a lucky place to have sun and good weather all year long. It??s only natural that people take advantage of it and go for a run whenever possible! But what seems to be unlucky is the amount of true specialty stores to outfit our runners with the right kind of shoe. That??s where Movin?? Shoes comes in.
Found centrally on Garnet Ave and started in 1977, Movin?? Shoes is a Mecca of sorts for the professional and amateur runner. These days, most shoe stores will have a basic smattering of running shoes with employees who don??t know much about the mechanics involved when choosing a pair for customers. Not here. All the employees are either runners themselves (professional or otherwise) and/or are coaches for running teams, so they know the ins and outs to get you that perfect fit of shoe. They also have a great selection of active wear and accessories to go with your new ??kicks?. The store is proud of how their business has done of how knowledgeable they are in this field and their inventory of high quality products that make sure customers walk (or run) away with what??s right for them, not what an ad campaign says you should be wearing.
Along with being a successful business, Movin?? Shoes also sets up regular events for locals such as Monday and Wednesday runs. These are great to meet fellow running enthusiasts and they??re also generally sponsored by big name brands like Asics! The shop has many repeat customers because of the staff??s in-depth knowledge and the friendliness they bring. I??m not much of a runner, but this is the sort of place I will go when I feel the need to take a jog.
