Toms River, NJ
I am pregnant with my first child and my in-laws who live in Whiting have temporarily taken my cats to help us out. My cat became sick and my husband and I went down to Whiting to bring him to the vet. We went to Tom's River Animal Hospital and $170.00 later were told he probably had a UTI and we were given medicine. After a couple days of monitoring him we realized he was not getting any better. We were concerned since he had one prior incident with urinary crystals that caused a blockage. We took him back to the animal hospital and we were given an estimate of roughly $2,000.00 for a catheterization and two day hospital visit. I expressed concern that it was a very high estimate since we had already gone through this and my doctor up in Northern Jersey had charged us $1,200.00 for the same thing plus that was a four day hospital visit. I was told that they could not match the price but could eliminate certain procedures that were not as necessary. So in essence they would eliminate services to lower my bill. I called my vet at home and he said that it would cost us the same as last time this occured we just had to get the cat back home. We brought that cat back to our own vet whose estimate was $822.00 for a two day visit. A lot better than the $2,000.00 that Tom's River wanted. My concern is that there is an overwhelming population of senior citizens on fixed incomes in that area and this is what faces them on a daily basis. I would not recommend this animal hospital to anyone.
