Don't bother taking your puppy here unless you are the kind of person that doesn't mind blowing $800. I didn't do my research before taking my puppy to Steve. On his website, it shows that he was highly recommended by Portland Monthly magazine, which was good enough for me. Wrong! Here's what I didn't know. That if you are willing to start from day 1 and teach your dog manners (sit, down, stay, come, etc), you can learn everything you need for training in a book. Honestly, Steve didn't teach my puppy one thing. I'm not kidding either. Everything my puppy learned was from my girlfriend and myself after we did extensive research on how to train our dog. When I asked Steve how to get my puppy to stop barking at other dogs while on the leash, he told me to buy a shock or citronella collar. Also, after the third visit, he started saying that I would need to buy a choke/pinch collar for my dog. What!? That's training? I just paid you 800 bucks so you could tell me to go buy something else? What am I paying you for again? I expected a lot more than some basic commands and advice to buy more crap after forking over that much money to someone that claims they "train" dogs. It's also very easy for your dog to obey Steve because the class takes place in a room with the blinds down and no other dogs for distractions. I don't know about anyone else, but this isn't a typical setting for my dog. Don't you want your dog to listen to you anywhere you go? If you have an older dog that is very aggressive and needs tons of correction, this may be the place for you, but for all puppy owners, please either take the time to read a book and train your puppy yourself. If that's not possible, enroll your puppy in a class that includes dogs and other distractions. They are much much cheaper, and you won't be haunted by the memory of how much you spent on Steve's so called "training."
