First off, I would really like it to be known that I try my best to be a fair person in anything I do in life, and in my own business as well.
I called this specific NTB off of Plano Pkwy & Preston Rd before I left my work, and the very first question I asked the representative who answered the phone was: "How much do you charge for your tire rotation?" The representative said: "No charge for it, it's absolutely FREE."
A few minutes before I called this NTB, I did however call a nearby Discount Tire (because I was also thinking of going to them since they're close by as well), and I presented the same exact question, and the representative over there said: It's FREE, we don't charge you even a dime". And so I was starting to get the impression that maybe all these certain tire shops are switching over to free rotations these days, because previously I was used to the fact that these tire shops only allowed free rotations for their clients who specifically purchased tires from them.
When I went in to this NTB, they proceeded with with the tire rotation. After they were finished, he handed me the car keys and I thanked them and started to leave. Right before I left, he presented a bill for $14 and some changes. I told him that when I called in before I arrived, the representative here said that it was free, and that there was no cost. The gentleman then told me that, that's not true, and it's only free if you bought the tires here. I asked him how come the representative over the phone did not present the question of me buying the tires from him or not, and instead, he simply & firmly said that the rotation would be "Free."
The representative then went on & on and aggressively told me that nothing is free in life. I understood that, but I kept explaining and asking him politely on why the representative did not let me know over the phone when the very first question I asked was "How much do you charge for your tire rotation?"
The representative then started to get more & more rude as we went on discussing, and I started to feel very embarassed in front of another customer when he tried to talk down onto me while bringing up random reasons of how I was incorrect. I understood his point, and most importantly, the money was not my issue... And instead the fact that I wasn't forewarned about the charge, when that's what I called to inquire about before I walked in.
He then rudely told my to leave, and just go... When I was politely trying to find a positive solution with him. And so I left since he insisted. He did not charge me, but my feelings were still greatly hurt due to what I had to endure through.
The following day, I called another NTB in the Dallas area, and asked them the same question, just to hear their answer. They said that it'd be $12 something plus tax. And I appreciated them for telling me that when I asked them how much their rotation was.
I did not want to give up, so I called another NTB location in the Dallas area. One of the managers picked up, and he said that he does not charge for a tire rotation. I asked him if he would still charge me even if I didn't buy the tires from NTB? And he said "No, I will not charge you." I asked him why, and explained my negative experience at another location, and he explained to me that all NTB's are required to charge for the rotation, but there is also an override code in their system which bypasses the charge, and he simply enters that for anybody that needs a rotation done... And he does not charge for rotations at his specific location there.
Just for the sake of it, I again called the Discount Tire near me, and they told me that none of their locations charge for a rotation, even if the client did not buy the tires from Discount Tire. They do so because they hope that in return, the client would eventually come back to give them business by purchasing a new set of tires from them.
Keep in mind that I'm truly not upset at this NTB location for charging for their rotations, but most importantly, I am deeply affected by this location for hurting my feelings as their potential client in the future. Even if I was wrong for any reason whatsoever, I shouldn't have been treated like a cruel enemy. I'm extremely likely to never go back to an NTB ever again. And that has become the bitter truth.
