My grateful thanks to Dr. Luis Perez for making me feel beautiful again. I thought I would share my story to prevent many of you from going through an experience with a prosthodontist who does NOT have the same level of professionalism or expertise as Dr. Perez. In August 2010, I fell and broke my jaw in three places. After a couple of surgeries and 19 weeks of being wired together, I was finally ready to have my teeth fixed. Dr. Perez was recommended by my maxillofacial surgeon but Dr. Perez was not on my insurance. I went to the prostodontist that my insurance recommended. I was sure that anyone with a degree in this field would be fine. I was very wrong. After months of drilling, temporaries on and off, root canals, and the finished product, I looked like white Chiclet gum had been placed on my teeth. I discussed this with the prostodontist, and he said that was the best they could do. After a year with an appearance I just hated, I decided I would see Dr. Perez and see if he could do anything, even if I had to pay out of pocket. I am pleased to report, I love my teeth. I feel beautiful again. They look so natural and even better than that, they feel natural. I want to share with you some things I would do differently if I had it to do over again. I would get an evaluation and proposal from at least three prostodontists. You should expect to see before and after pictures of their work. I would expect a full explanation of the process. This process is lengthy and you need to know what to expect at each juncture. Ask about the gum line. With the Chiclet teeth there was a grey edge (metal) at the gum line and the gum was uneven. It doesnt have to be this way. Dr. Perez spent much time preparing my gums and making them more symmetrical. If root canals are involved, ask what is going to secure the remaining tooth after it is capped. If a post or something similar is not installed, the cap and tooth will eventually fall off, because there is no root. Last, ask about the material to be used. It makes a difference. Porcelain over metal is not translucent. Natural looking teeth are. There are products that are translucent. I only wish I had known this before I spent 6 months to achieve a terrible outcome. I certainly would have gone with Dr. Perez the first time. He is a patient focused perfectionist. His staff is kind and expert. I am just so glad I decided to have my teeth redone by Dr. Perez. Every day I look in the mirror and smile. I love my teeth. Thank you Dr. Perez. This is the best money I ever spent! And, I hope my experience will helps others who need similar dental work.
