Took my 2008 Honda Civic in because of a catastrophic acceleration problem; suggested to the service guy that it might be something in the transmission or engine. My husband is a former mechanic so we're not idiots when it comes to cars. They called me the next day and told me "This is what we found so far ... you need new front brakes, new spark plugs, a top end induction cleaning and a new cabin air filter at a cost of $1,100". We questioned them because none of these things had anything to do with the problem we were having; the reply was "well, we'll fix this stuff and then keep looking". Really? Told them to put the car back together and we would have a tow truck pick it up. Took it to another dealership, who immediately read the engine code and found that we had lost compression on the #3 cylinder. Turned out we had a broken valve in the engine. The other dealership fixed it for us, did a great job and treated us right. Bottom line ... I hate to think how much money these guys would have tried to get out of us before they got to the problem! I wouldn't take a broken bicycle to this service department, unless you just like to give away your hard-earned money!
