Monette's is world class, for the price. It is consistently 30% to 60% cheaper than grocery stores. The people who work there are friendly, and the selection is a big positive--they have some Indian and Chinese veggies there that you will usually find only at an Asian or Indian grocery. They have a minimal selection of organic produce. Quality is variable... sometimes they will get a huge shipment of something like apples or oranges or grapefruits and sell them at an amazing price, and they are great the first couple of weeks. But again, the prices... these guys will sell bing cherries for 0.99-1.99/lb when they are 3.99-6.99/lb elsewhere, for example. Like any grocery store produce these days, you need to look at and feel and smell what you are buying to make sure it is good. Great selection of local apples from September to January. Some homegrown strawberries during the season. Amazing selection of fresh flowers and garden veggies at the beginning of gardening season. Deli section has reasonable prices and friendly staff and is unusual in that they sell both Boars Head and Dietz & Watson, in addition to Sara Lee and Troyer, and in spite of having so many brands, the prices are typically $1-2/lb less than what you'd find elsewhere. If you like getting a good deal from local people and seeing a familiar face, rather than paying full price at an impersonal big box store, you will like Monette's. I don't know how they are able to sell things so cheaply and stay in business, but I'm glad they do.
