A solid and affordable Meisner program!
I just completed month six of the two year Meisner training program at the Wayne Dvorak Acting Studio. Im absolutely loving it! Waynes classes are very small (my class only has 10 people) so theres plenty of time for him to focus on each individual and everyone goes up every single week. We meet once a week for about 3-4 hours and outside of class were required to rehearse with a partner at least twice a week for a minimum of an hour each rehearsal. We also mix scene work in after the first couple of months and then every other month from there. Wayne chooses high quality/ challenging scenes for us to work on from great contemporary plays and films and he has you work on them until he believes youve really gotten out of them what you could. He also teaches us some useful voice exercises to use outside of class! Wayne is a very kind person and skilled acting teacher. Hes straightforward and professional in his critiques and the dude is really funny. He helps us pinpoint and work on any of our bad acting habits until were relaxed and working from our true selves.
So far the class has helped me have even stronger connections to my scene partners. I originally came to the class to open myself up more emotionally, specifically in expressing grief. I feel like Ive made great progress there so far! The first year focuses more on acting from who you are as a person. The second year focuses on character acting and impediments, which Im really looking forward to!
Be prepared to work because you can really only improve if you get the rehearsal time in and actually challenge yourself inside and outside of class. I appreciate that Wayne doesnt hold our hands through this process and expects us to hold ourselves accountable. On top of all of this, his class is one of the most affordable ongoing classes Ive seen here in Los Angeles. I think Waynes class is wonderful and I do believe that everyone, even non-actors, should take a Meisner class. Itll make you a better listener at the very least, youll be able to read people better, and youll be prepared to execute complex feelings that are required of actors who want to have careers.
