This is a convenient restaurant for folks going to the end of the highway in the northern part of Kauai (such as Haena Pt). The food is relatively cheap and they have tasty and healthy food options. I had a veggie burrito which was quite good.
This is a very nice place for an airport restaurant. For not much more than they charge for fast food at the airport, you can have a nice healthy sit-down meal with plates and silverware. The service is fast and they even brought out complementary chips and salsa while I waited for my food. The burrito I had was excellent.
PROS: Good service, good food, prices are reasonable for the airport
This place has the most narrow and crowded parking structure in the world. To make it worse, there is always some idiot who waits 5 minutes for a parking space to open up at the expense of 100s of people waiting to get into the parking structure.
Advice: do not wait for a parking space, even for a minute, just keep driving.
More advice: often if you head toward the exit, you will find some prime parking spaces there.
Once you get inside, it is a pretty standard mall. I mostly wanted to gripe about the losers who hold everyone up in the parking structure.
CONS: Awful parking, selfish people in the parking structure
This is a nice little restaurant that replaced the Real Food Daily that used to be here. There is a free parking structure (for one hour) less than a block north of this location.
They have food for all kinds of diets - high carb, high protein, vegetarian, etc. My dish, the vegetarian burger, was very good, and my friend liked her shrimp dish.
The one turn-off - I ordered water and they gave me some $2.50 bottled water. I later found that there is free ice water in the corner which they didn't tell me about.
I come here because it is much closer than any other hardware store, but that is about the only reason (other than it is right next to Smart and Final).
The prices are a bit high but not too bad.
I've received some unfriendly service from the registers here. Maybe they were just tired after having to work in the hot store all day, but man were they unfriendly.
PROS: Close to where I live
CONS: Unfriendly employees
I feel a bit strange reviewing every single Real Food Daily in Los Angeles, but they are all quite different! All of them have excellent gourmet vegetarian food, but this one is unique in that it serves weekend brunch with a special menu.
Sadly, this location is now closed.
Pine Forest Garden is an Asian Vegetarian restaurant - in fact I think they are entirely vegan.
The dishes are varied and unique - many Asian Vegetarian restaurants serve similar dishes, but Pine Forest Garden really had some unusual and tasty items and didn't use too much oil.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The ambiance is not super elegant but it is clean and serene. This is not a fine dining restaurant, but if you are looking for good eats, this is the place to go.
I believe they use no MSG.
I'm surprised to find such a great vegetarian place in Houston!
PROS: Tasty and healthy food, friendly staff
CONS: A bit hard to find - buried in a mini-mall
If you happen to be in Waimea on the island of Kauai, don't miss any opportunity to stop by Jo-Jo's. It doesn't matter if you are full, or you've already had desert - you must stop here and get some shave ice. (Note: for some reason they call it is "Shave Ice", not "Shaved Ice" as we call it on the mainland.)
I'd recommend getting it with ice cream or coconut milk (if you can eat dairy) and/or coconut shavings (a must). I had mine with coconut, lychee, and pineapple flavoring, and it was spectacular. My only regret is not getting another one.
PROS: Amazing, super-refreshing
CONS: Why did I not go there again?
We only visited Sukhothai once but were very impressed with the food and ambiance.
It was a particularly hot day and we had been dealing with some frustrating traffic (if you can believe there are traffic jams on Kauai) - once we stepped into the restaurant we were able to cool down in a peaceful atmosphere with wonderful Thai curries and drinks.
The waitress was very nice and gave us a lot of advice on beaches in the area.
The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, and it is somewhat hidden in a strip mall, but definitely stop by if you happen to be in Kapaa Town.
PROS: Nice people, peaceful ambiance, great food
CONS: A bit hard to find
I love this place - the service is wickedly fast and the food is very good though some of the dishes that you might expect to be hot are actually cold.
I had the vegetarian platter where you can choose 4 vegetarian items - I had the falafel (very good), the baba ganoush (excellent), the lentil-rice dish (excellent), and the grape leaves (excellent). I also tried my friend's hummus and it was incredibly creamy.
I've heard that the guy at the counter can be a bit tough (think of the owner in the soup kitchen in Seinfeld), but he seemed pretty nice to me.
PROS: Excellent food, fast service
