What Insiders are Saying about Fye

Fye in Boston, GA

By Niandra L.

When I was younger, around thirteen, and first getting into music, the used cd section was like a candy store. They have a decent selection of used major label cd's at fairly good prices. However, my musical preferences have changed. They never seem to carry any of the more outr independent music that I prefer nowadays. The atmosphere of the store is not so great either - quite creepy, actually. The store is dingy and I feel like I am about to get my purse stolen. The prices of new merchandise are too high unless they are on sale. I suggest you look elsewhere for music and DVDs. PROS: Fairly cheap used CDs CONS: Poor selection, expensive, dirty and creepy

I had never heard of this place before, but we stopped in and did a little shopping. They seemed to have a very good selection of popular current DVD's, and some less common stuff as well. It probably doesn't compare with some of the large mega-stores, but it was convenient, the staff was friendly and helpful, and it was nicely maintained. The list prices were very expensive ($29.99 for a DVD K-mart sells for $18ish), but everything we were looking for was "on sale" or had a buy-one-get-one special of some sort, so it was actually fairly reasonable in the end ($22.99 for that $18ish DVD). Gurnee Mills is typically a bit pricier than other stores, so we were satisfied with that.

Small store, but the owner (Sumter Bruton) is a great guy and knows a ton about music. If you want to learn about Blues, Jazz and classic Rock, Record Town is the place for you. If he doesn't have it on hand, he'll order it in quickly. He also sells guitars, amps and phonograph needles. He'll be glad to show you a few licks as well.

FYE music store offers a wide variety of music. They have rap, heavy metal, classical, opera, hip hop, soul, broadway, country, salsa, etc. They haev cd's, dvd's, video games, and magazines. The store is always well stocked, so you should be able to find what you are looking for. The prices are great, and you can usually get a good deal on a few of the items that you are buying.

FYE (also known as Sam Goody, Suncoast, and countless other names) has survived in malls across America for years. As far as I can tell, though, being in a mall is the only reason they stay in business. PROS: -Convenient mall location -Many different types of products (music, video, apparel, games, etc.) -New AND used items -You can trade in used items CONS: -HORRIBLE selection - the weak selection of stuff available here makes Best Buy look like paradise. -HORRIBLE, FULL RETAIL PRICES. No markdown whatsoever. In fact, this is the ONLY store I think I've ever been in that RAISED the price above MSRP! -THEY DON'T HONOR PRICING ERRORS. Tower did this (provided it was the store's error) and they were a better store for it. Why other chains can't follow this example is beyond me. -Often subpar staff. This one is pretty self-explanatory, often you won't be able to get a straight answer on your questions. -No way to view/listen to samples. The store really needs the touch-screen database stores like Tower had and Zia has now. What we have here is a weak chain of stores that fails in nearly every area, who has only survived to their mall location. If you live in the Vegas valley, go shop at Zia instead. They've got all the "pros" of this place, and many, many more.

Only a few remaining of this rapidly vanishing breed. Get your item here and find it in the used bin or new. Great selection of cd's and dvd's. Also, a fine collection of items that are perfect for adding to you collection. Don't miss this place because Wherehouse is not what it was, but is what it was here. After moving to Philadelphia, it took me almost a year to discover this mall. Very big, bright and clean. They have a carousel for the children to ride, 3 floors for lots of great shopping and various entrances. They are always adding new stores and updating the area. One of the best malls in the area. PROS: Great Parking Lot, Lots of great stores CONS:
