Called to have cat eye drop prescription renewed and gentleman put me on hold and came back..said would be ready in 1 hr. I got a phone call 10 minutes later that Dr wanted to see cat again before renewing. I told him if drops don't work in 10 days would bring cat in, but not good enough. He said no charge, so I relented. When I brought cat in I confirmed with Vet assistant that no charge and she confirmed. Dr looked in cat's eyes for about 30 seconds, renewed prescription and charged for a full inspection. Arguing with them was pointless. They don't honor their word and if you can't trust them, who needs them. Do yourself a favor and find a Vet who you can trust and who isn't trying to rip you off. All I can think is that they must be having financial problems because nobody would lie and lose a customer.

All I can say is that Desert Dunes is amazing in every way!!!!!!! My puppy had come in with Parvovirus around 8 weeks old and thanks to the treatment, care and education this hospital's staff and Dr had given me on how to treat this disease he survived! My Talon is now 17 months old, happy, strong ,healthy and loving!!!! Reading some of these negative comments made me very upset....people need to understand animals and people are the same when it comes to illnesses. Some illnesses can easily be detected with testing and some may never be diagnosed. It is easy to complain and point fingers but ALL doctors are human.THEY ARE NOT GOD. They do there best with what they can.Losing a pet is heart breaking and I know I have had to put down a few of my own in my lifetime but the time comes when you should be educated enough in your life to know not every medical issue can be treated or even diagnosed. Some things are just not fixable! As for the money end of it..........everyone is aware medical bills are outrageous and yes this is an unfortunate problem but the prices are generally the same everywhere. High medical bills either for ourselves or our pets dose not make a Dr or clinic incompetent! I highly recommend this Hospital to everyone and I can guarantee so would my Talon!!!!!!!!!!

Terrible clinic. It is so very true all they want is your $$. They don't care about your animal..My Bill came to a little over $10,000.00 for my 7 year old dog who became ill all of a sudden and wouldn't eat. All of the $10000.00 was spent on tests for a period of two months, unnecessary meds and overpriced food!
This is why I feel they are incompetent ....when blood and lab work come back normal but yet physically the animal shows signs of severe illness...It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the tests are inaccurate. I truly believe they don't know how to read the test results correctly or else they really don't test them. Or maybe my pet was just a learning experience for them because they just aren't good doctors.
Well very sad to say I had to put my dog down after seeing him suffer for two months of fighting his unknown illness..Desert Dunes is now harassing me for the remainder $700.00 that I owe. They never did say sorry to hear of his passing or even a sympathy card......Horrible place!!.
Best place to go is a doctor who is not in a "Corporate Club like most of these animal clinics they have in the Desert!
The best advice I can give you is to look for the little hole in the wall clinics and you will find the best doctors there that have values on how they run their practice.

I brought in my dog December 12th to be examined. Lucy had been short of breath, lethargic, generally not herself. I waited a couple hours while tests were run. All tests came back favorable or inconclusive. I was sent home with antibiotics and a cough suppressant. The antibiotics seemed to help, but only marginally, and Lucy never returned back to normal. Tragically, Lucy passed away in the early morning of the 22nd, and just having finished the antibiotic prescription. Although the sincerity and customer service that followed the examination (staff called for several days following the appointment to follow up), I do think that from a veterinary standpoint someone should have asked further questions from a case involving an animal with problematic symptoms yet returned all normal test results. More thinking outside the box and less ??cure with a pill? protocol. Perhaps this could have changed the nature of this review.

My Maltese, Skip, is a special needs dog. When I moved to the Palm Desert area, I was very concerned about finding a good doctor for him. I read all the reviews I could find online, and then asked my neighbors also. Even though some of the reviews on this hospital were not so good on this site, I was still most commonly referred to them. I took my chances. I called and asked so many questions, and they were so helpful. I took Skippy in for just an exam and to get to know the doctor, and I was really impressed. Just three months after this, Skippy got sick. He was vomiting and defecating everywhere. When I called, they had the doctor call me back the same day, and not only did Dr. Connor call me by name, he was ready with solutions. He gave me medicine, and offered a lot of great advice. Since then I have brought Skip back for check ups and he's doing great. I really appreciate them taking the time to comfort a worried Mom! I will definitely take Skip there from now on.

I had an issue with my dog, and I was really scared, because I didn't know what to do. A neighbor of mine recommended Desert Dunes Animal Hospital. She said that one of the doctors that worked there actually owned the practice. She liked them a lot because she said even though it was a big hospital, it felt a little like a home town type of veterinarian. When I called them, they were able to see me right away. As it turned out, my dog was very ill and they saved her life. Everyone was so nice and so helpful. I will most definitely return to them.

My "SON" Rox is a 3 yr old 4 lb yorkie who is my world he was vomiting and had black stools for 2 days after extreme letahagy came about I rushed him to Desert Dunes Animal Hospital and we were worked in right away the front staff even cared enough to send a nurse from the back to make sure rox was not in such a bad condition that he should be rushed to the back. He was okay enough to wait in my arms to be seen by the doctor. After X-rays and bloodwork he was diagnosed with pancreatitis he had to be hospitalized for 4-5 days but even though I have never left my son any where I felt OK leaving him there after I saw how some of the techs were treating the hospitalized patients with such great care through the room windows. Glad to report my son is doing great and we since have continued going to desert dunes animal hospital after this episode because I didnt feel as if they wanted to do stuff just to make a buck. I was even able to visit during his stay. His cage was always full of blankies and clean money well spent!

I have a 4 yr old doberman that was urinating uncontrollably after we left for a weekend vacation with a dog sitter. I meet Dr Emswiller who was a very straight forward but thorough Doctor. He was Diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus after some necessary lab testing to figure out what was going on. Not only did I receive a call back to come and discuss the results he even printed out handouts so I could better understand our babies situation. Thanks to Dr Emswiller our dog is back to normal and we are continuing care at Desert Dunes Animal Hospital. Every 3 months we need Bloodwork to check on his status. The front staff knows us by name and everyone seems to genuinlly care about Titan. I wont go anywhere else.

Good to see others feel the same way!!!
I brought my 16 yr. old lab/great pyranese mix to this animal hospital when they were in palm desert to be put down. His stomach had turned, his liver, kidneys were failing him. The poor dog was dying of old age. Instead of putting him down and letting him out of his misery, they decided to run lab tests and shoot him up with enough steroids to make run around like a one year old puppy. Needless to say my poor dog suffered a long lasting and very painful heart attack the next day. I spent $1,600 in vet bills to watch my poor dog die in agony. After he passed the response I got from the hospital was: oh, we thought that might happen. If you'd like bring him in and we'll take care of the remains. This hospital is only out to make as much money as they can. Don't bring your beloved family member there. They could care less about the well being of your animal and more about the money they can make off you.

Mrs. Koodrich who claims to be a veterinarian was the vet at Animal Medical Hospital. Apparently she worked or works at Desert Dunes as well. My 3 year old,6 pound Maltese was taken to the Animal Medical Hospital in Palm Springs for teeth cleaning. and died. No explanation. no sympathy. We are devastated. His labs showed his organs and blood gases were "perfect".. Who knows where this woman will be working next, but, BEWARE ! I understand she has several dogs. Just wonder if she cleans their teeth in the same manner she cleaned my beloved pets teeth?

I brought one of my three cats in for a yearly vaccination and since I was one day passed when he was given shots last year they wanted me to come back for an exam and shots a different day. I just wanted a vaccinaton that day and anyone who has cats knows the trouble of bringing a cat to the vet. I left and will take my business else where.

Henry Randazzo, DVM, Desert Dunes Animal Hospital, Bermuda is the owner of this animal hospital and he does not care one bit about your pets, they just wnat your money! My dog wasn't feeling well and all they wanted to do was sell me a bunch of extra medication and procedures that he didn't need. I have heard this from others who have taken their pets there too. I would never take another animal there. They tried to sell me on a a full dental cleaning under anesthesia with monthly visits to come back for what they call "gentle dentals" This would involve wrapping my 8 pound dog up in a tight blanket so that he can't move while they try to clean his teeth! I said no way and I will never go back! Other vets have told me that they consider it cruelty to animals but Dr. Randazzo doesn't care. Trust what you read take your pet somewhere else!

Henry Randazzo, DVM, Desert Dunes Animal Hospital, Bermuda Dunes, Ca., sold me on deep dental cleaning for my beloved 13 y/o female Golden Retriever using anesthesia. As a result of using anesthesia on an old dog, she suffered a massive stroke immediately thereafter, but regardless, she was discharged from the animal hospital that same day. I was told it was just the effects from the anesthesia and it would wear off. It didn't and I paid over $3000 to another veterinarian to help her recover. She recently died as a result of a 2nd stroke precipitated by the first stroke, precipitated by the use of the anesthesia. The question becomes, why would a Vet "sell" a beloved pet owner on the use an anesthetic on an old dog with no cavities, no dental problems, and no periodontal disease? What would be the advantage and what is the down side? Wouldn't you think the vet would err on the side of caution and do no harm? It was an unconscionable act which resulted in the death of a very dear and beloved family member, my very best friend and companion of nearly 14 years. I went to tremendous lengths to insure Kona's good health and well-being and spent thousands and thousands of dollars on her medical needs over the years. The vet refused to reimburse for his dastardly deed, nearly $800 and never once said I am sorry for your loss. The abuse to my dog and the physical and emotional trauma to me and my family has been debilitating and his actions reprehensible. I cry every day, all day and now take anti-depressants, sleeping pills and am heartbroken and suffering more than words could ever describe. I am now in therapy with a Psychiatrist because of my sadness, depression and guilt for letting this Vet talk me into the procedure using an anesthetic. I trusted him and believed him to be the expert and to do the right thing. Surely he knew what's best for my baby, or so I believed. Clearly he should have erred on the side of caution and should have never talked me into giving an old dog anesthesia except in a life threatening emergency. Clearly I should have known better, but my foolish belief that he is the expert and he knows best changed my life forever. Never ever have blind faith. My beautiful, sweet, loving Kona was my best friend and companion for 14 years. My world has been shattered and destroyed because of one vets greed and my trusting him. He should not be permitted to do this to any other animal lover caregiver and pet owner. Kona and I suffered unimaginable grief, and unnecessarily. PLEASE, everyone, be careful and be cautious and ask plenty of questions. Do this for Kona, do it for your pet.
