wonderful restaurant in a world class league. The food is perfectly presented and portioned. The service is great. The restaurant is probably the most beautiful in Southern California, especially the gardens. We loved that they place a high emphasis on antibiotic free and hormone free meats. When you put into account the quality of the ingredients this place is almost a bargain. We loved the homemade sausage, the calamari, the pasta with truffles and we all had veal which was superb! Everyone should experience this restaurant.

I'm surprised at the previous reviews since I've been a loyal client of La Spiga's for a few years now. I couldn't bear to see such bad things being said about one of my favorite restaurants. I find the food to be top notch, Service attentive, location spectacular. I have no problem recommending this restaurant to family, friends or colleagues.

I love Italian food .. I go to Italy at leaset once a year .. heard good things about this restaurant from friends .. very difficult to find .. the atmosphere is good .. beautiful restaurant .. the server assured me that they cooked all their pasta fresk to order .. al dente .. had a papadelli for the second course .. and shared it .. was shocked to see this small portion of pasta that was being split for me and my guest .. then I ordered Spaghetti Bolagnase .. another small portion .. for $ 24.00! Pasta was over cooked .. told the server ... he takes it back and comes back right away with the same dish that he took away with the comment, " I gave you the wrong dish the last time"! Unbelievable! I sent it back .. he came back with fresh fork and spoon and said, " The chef doesn't want you to be unhappy .. he is cooking another pasta for you!" So I wait .. I get the pasta .. it is crunchy .. so the ding dong that calls himself a chef won the argument .. hurray .. I will never go back to the place.

If you are into very small portions ( for an Italian place ..can you imagine? ) for very high prices this is the place for you.

My wife and I were visiting Palm Desert from San Diego for a few days in December of '07 and decided to try La Spiga.

I ordered the fish dinner ($33) and salad ($8) for my wife. For myself, I ordered soup($8), a side order of spinach ($9), an appetizer of mussels($14) and, finally, an appetizer of spaghetti Bolognese($14). Unfortunately, the waiter said I couldn't order the appetizer portion of the Bolognese as a main course and that if I wanted the Bolognese I would have to order it as a main course.

At this point, including the bruschetta, I have ordered more than $50 dollars worth of food and am intending to order two glasses of wine. My total food and beverage bill, including the bruschetta and wine would have been over $75 while for my wife it would have been $41 for a total bill of about $115.00.

The spaghetti Bolognese was offered as a main course for $23. Thus, if I had dropped everything from my first order, including the wine, and ordered just the diner of Bolognese technically they would have been delighted to serve our two dinners for what would have been a total bill of less than $70.

At this point I asked to speak to the manager. The waiter disappeared and spoke to the manager. He then returned without the manager and repeated his/the restaurant's refusal to serve me the appetizer Bolognese unless I either ordered it as a main course or as an appetizer along with some main course.

As my wife and I were leaving I stopped at the front desk to talk to the manager who reviewed the restaurant's policy of not allowing patrons to order an appetizer as the main course.

I asked the manager if the waiter told her that I ordered, bruschetta, soup, a side of spinach, an order of mussels, and the appetizer portion of the Bolognese or that I intended to order two glasses of wine. She said he had not. At this point my wife and I left the premises.

Truly, I have never been so insulted or embarrassed at a restaurant.
