Good zoo. Enclosures for some larger animals too small. Animals that sway their heads back and forth are stressed and in too small of an area. Exhibits good, staff great. Zoo area way too small and should be relocated to a site with more

I've been there a few times in the last couple of years, and have enjoyed it every time. We can easily spend 3 hours there, just walking around looking at everything. It does seem like there is always some kind of renovation being done, but you never really "see" it. Things are just blocked off one day, and finished the next.
My son loves it, so even if I did find it to be boring (which I don't), I'd still take him.

The Honolulu Zoo was never fun every time I went. It always smelled funny but thats because of the elephants. The animals were hardly out when I came to see their exhibit. They were always hiding behind a rock or something sleeping. I dont think they enjoyed being looked at by strangers everyday, but who would. The only great place to be is at the petting zoo. You can pet them and they provide food for the animals there so you can feed them. Its fun for the children. Be careful there though because the ducks may bite.

I LOVE the Honolulu Zoo. I don't have children, but me and my boyfriend go there all the time. It is true they are doing lots of renovations... it should look fantastic when they are done. There is lots to see there: giraffes, hippos, rhinoceros, monkeys, birds, tortoises, lions, zebras. It took us two and a half hours last time we were there - if you have kids, you could easily spend an entire day. There are play areas and a zoo train for the kids, and a concession stand, which is overpriced. The admission to the zoo is $6 for adults, and discounted for kids, although I'm not sure the exact amount. It is definitely worth the $6. Ten times better than the Aquarium or Sea Life Park, both of which cost more money. Highly recommended!!!
PROS: fun, lots of animals, cheap admission
CONS: overpriced concessions

Sad to say the Honolulu Zoo is pretty lame. They always have some sort of renovation going on and most of the exotic animals are sleeping or not in the exhibit area, ie Tiger, Lion and Rhino. The food and drink prices are outrageous. Admission is $4 for residents and probably outrageous for tourists.
