Captain Bills gave us the opposite experience. We went and they wanted to cancel the morning trip due to choppy weather. They automatically rescheduled us onto the afternoon trip. We were not available for the afternoon trip and so they wanted us to take rainchecks. We were with friends who were heading back to college and would not be back in the area till the following year, but Captain Bill's did not care. They were rude to us, especially the woman / sister-in-law at the counter. Finally we gave in and took rainchecks which expired before we could use them the next year. We did go on a whale watch out of Boston and they had great customer service. We had a great time and they honored competitors coupons.

Business Response:

Assistant Manager Nana M, We're very sorry the weather did not cooperate with your group to come out for a whale watch, it is one of the aspects of the business we cannot control. I just want to let you know that our rainchecks actually never expire so you can use them whenever you would like. We had someone use their rainchecks from 2001 just the other day. Also, we never automatically put people on the next trip if we do not speak with them first. In addition, if you purchased with paypal, we usually issue refunds for cancelled trips if the customers do not want rainchecks. But if you just had reservations, chances are you weren't charged anyway because we hold our reservations with a credit card and the purchase is made when you get to our office. Just wanted to clear up some of the confusion in our raincheck policy. If you and your college friends would like to use your rainchecks you can use them for as long as we are in business. Hope you come back and try us again.

My daughter has been trying for years to get me out on the whale watches. She found Captain Bill's out of Gloucester and talked me into it. Now I'm hooked. I've been going there for a couple of seasons now and love it.From the people in the office all the way to the captain of the boat have been great.
From day one we always felt like more then just another fare.
There is always a little intro of what they are hoping to see out there. There is always someone there to answer any questions you might have. There is plenty of room on the boat and a snack bar. Kids are always welcomed too.
I can't wait for our next trip.....

I've been a repeat customer of Capt Bill & Sons for the past few seasons now and I can't say enough about them! Their vessel, the Miss Cape Ann, is a large boat and is very comfortable. Even in rougher weather conditions the Miss Cape Ann handles things very well. They have plenty of seating both on the outside and inside and there's plenty of rail room while we are watching the whales. They have a galley full of a variety of different snacks and drinks and the crew is always nice and eager to assist you in whatever you need. They're also very enthusiastic about the whales we see and about the environment.

Each whale watch is expertly narrated by a research associate from the Whale Center of New England and these scientists really know their stuff! They know most of the whales in this area as individuals incredibly well and are able to share details of their lineage, personalities, and habits, etc on most occasions. The amount of info that is shared with the passengers on each trip is amazing to say the least. Even if you know little about whales before boarding the boat, you'll definitely know a lot more about them before the trip is over!

Another great thing about Capt Bill & Sons is that they have the perfect balance of getting us close enough to the whales to get great looks at them while keeping the whales safety a top priority. You'll never see them harassing any of the whales or overstepping their bounds in an attempt to get a closer look. They respect the whales personal space which is always something to look out for regardless of which whale watch company you choose. In my personal expeience, Capt Bills is one of the best and I highly recommend them!

Captain Bill and Sons is a great place to go for whale watching. They are very attentive to let you know what is going on each moment, and they alert you of whales appearing. They open early season and stay open much later than all the other whale watching/deep sea fishing ships. I loved going on whale watching ships my whole life and look forward to going again this summer with my children.

We usually go with another whale watch company, but we chose Captain Bill's last October as it was the only company still running tours that late in the season.

They can be a little hard to find if you are not familiar with the crazy streets in Gloucester and their parking area is TINY. Be careful where and how you park. The meter maids/parking authority in that area are eager to write up tickets.

The price is good and pretty much the same as all the other whale watch companies on the coast. They have a nice boat (I'm not sure how many boats they have total), with a galley where you can get sandwiches, beverages and snack foods. The staff truly knows their stuff. They are able to identify a majority of whales by their markings and they have a great amount of knowledge about the sea life you encounter.

Yes, the water can get choppy and the weather isn't always nice. This is something to take into account when you go out on a boat.

We had a great time on our trip with them and saw quite a few whales for that time of year. I would certainly recommend them.

My family has gone on Whale Watch tours with Captain Bill's for 3 consecutive years, and we are currently looking forward to our 4th trip! We have always enjoyed our experience with them and they are very helpful if anyone is seasick. The last trip both my son and my mother were seasick and the staff were great! They were very conscientious of the condition of all the passengers, but were especially helpful with those that are seasick. You have to take into consideration that you are on a boat in the ocean and take precautions. If you get mild motion sickness I recommend taking Dramamine before you go out. There are also stronger things available from your doctor if you suffer stronger forms of motion sickness. Having said all that, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Captain Bill and Son's for your Whale Watch experience. The guides are from the Whale Center that is right next door to Captain Bill's and so are very knowledgeable and, almost always able to identify the whales by name. Letting you know how many years that particular whale has been spotted in the area. Just seeing these mammals up close is an amazing experience, but going out with Captain Bill's makes it even more enjoyable! My family won't go out with any other company!

Our party of 10 went on the Capt. Bill's Whale Watch last summer. Yes, we saw alot of whales because they take you really far out. However, I highly recommend that you do NOT go out on a day where its windy and the water is choppy. Almost our entire boat was seasick. There was a group of senior citizens and those poor people were so ill. About 7 from our party got ill. Be careful, because these tours do not cancel their trips for any reason. Otherwise, the whales were great.

Business Response:

Manager Robin P, We are very sorry to hear that a lot of people from your party got sick on the day you came out with us. However, i just want to let you know that if you look back at our record of cancellations due to weather, you will find that we cancel the most out of any of the whale watches in the north shore due to bad/inclement weather. We also put up a "SEAS ARE CHOPPY" sign when necessary so people can take the proper precautions before their trip and are aware of the sea conditions. Hopefully you will come try us again on a nice, calm day, to make for a better trip.
