BEWARE: Horrible and unsanitary! Dr Abe offered to pay me to write a 5 star review. Billing and high charges for services and tries to upsell every dental treatment that is possible. The staff is rude especially when calling for an appointment but the last straw was when the doctor wore his bloody gloves from another patient and came to check my tooth. I literally freaked out and wanted to flee. This is a disgusting dental office and only wants your money and doesn't care about your health. I'm filing a complaint with BBB & my dental insurance company

Dr. Abe is a very nice person. But I would never recommend him to anyone that I cared about. He's generally a good dentist but lacks good judgment and is unethical (whether he means to or not). Basically, he did a root canal and did it poorly. Then instead of acting in my best interest (by sending me to a speclialist to fix his poor root canal job), he decided to act in his own interest (and pocket) by performing surgery in his office where he cut through my gums (resulting in about 15 stitches or so). He sent me home swollen where I had nosebleeds all night. On top of that, he never really explained what was involved in this procedure so I was shocked to when I realized that that he had cut through half of my face! I was scared and horrified. I felt like he just cared about charging me a lot of money and also giving himself another chance to fix his poor work. The worst part is that IT DIDN'T WORK!! After spending over 7K on just the root canal and this random surgery, I still had to go to a speclialist who had to fix Dr. Abe's poor job. The specialist explained to me that Dr. Abe did not have the skill level or equipment to do a perfect root canal...the specialist used microscopic equipment to make sure nothing was left in there to form into an infection, which is exactly what happened with Dr. Abe. The specliaist cost me another couple of grand. Dr. Abe used poor judgment and there is no excuse for it. If you go to him, he's generally a good dentist, but he has no business performing root canals. The worst part is that he did another root canal and now I'm having the same kind of pain and I'm told that he didn't do it properly so I need to go through the same pain and cost to get this one fixed. I should report him to the board and sue him, but I don't have the patience for it.

And by the way, make sure you check the bill when you leave. They always give you these pain killers and they charge you $20 per pill!!! I didn't realize that's what they were doing until I actually looked at my bill. Ridiculous and unethical!

I went to him for many years before deciding that I was being ripped off and mis-treated. What took me back is that he is a good guy and very nice. But at the end of the day a nice dentist isn't worth keeping if he won't act in your best interest and will cost you over $10,000 to fix his more than one poor root canals!! Go elsewhere and if you stay with him, get a second opinion before letting him cut you open.

My son was going through tremendous pain on a Friday evening. We made an emergency call into Dr. Abe's office. He returned our call right away, called in a prescription so my son would be able to get through the night in less pain. Dr. Abe is very attentative and truly cares for his patients. My son and us as parents has had a great experience with Dr. Abe.

My family has been going to Dr. Abe for three generations. He has always done nothing but excellent work with a caring attitude. His staff are fantastic, I never have to wait long and the place is clean, clean, clean. I have never had serious pain or any complications from his work. AND after major work Dr. Abe always calls personally later that day to check up on his patients. I highly recommend this dentist office to everyone.

I was about to visit this dentist then one of my friends told me that he owns a bunch of sleazy dance studios and employs dishonest tactics to overcharge students. From the reviews here, it looks like he's doing the same with this dental clients. Can't rate him, except as to character which is apparently not too good.

Overall I would NOT recommend going here. Dr Abe and his staff are very nice, and I didn??t have a problem with the procedures that were done, but the problems I had with the billing deterred me from ever going back. First I was overcharged at my visit, then in addition to overcharging me....they actually tried to send me a bill for even more money. If I didn't know in depth about how my dental plan works I would have ended up paying hundreds of dollars I didn't owe, which I'm guessing they have gotten other people to unknowingly do. Even if they tell you they are not contracted with your insurance plan, that might not be true. They tried to tell me that in order to charge me more money, but, in fact, they really were contracted with my insurance company..so make sure you verify with your insurance company. I don't know for sure if it was an oversight on their part, or a scam. After several phone calls and explanations about how my insurance plan works they finally admitted I was right and they were contracted with my insurance company, but then they tried to charge me my deductible in addition to what my insurance statement said that I owe (the deductible is included in the insurance statement of what I owe). FINALLY after several phone calls, they admitted that they owe me a refund. It took about 4 months and 10-12 phone calls until I finally eventually got my refund. I definitely won't go back ever again, it is not worth the trouble. If you do go there, make sure you pay attention to your bill, and know exactly how your insurance policy works?.and if they overcharge you, be prepared to wait months for a refund. Oh, and if you don't have insurance, or if they are not contracted w/ your insurance company I defintely do not recommend it...he is super expensive.

I don't have anything but nice things to say about Dr. Abe's practice. As a first time patient they gave me a free x-ray and exam. However the exam revealed I need 2 cavities filled and they gave me estimates for them and a teeth cleaning. I called Dr. Mak's in Pasadena's office and compared prices. Here is what I found.

Dental Code D2331: filling Resin- 2 Surface Anterior Abe: $170; Mak: $150.
Dental Code D2391: filling Resin- 1 Surface Posterior Abe: $178; Mak: $146
Dental Code D4355: cleaning Abe: $195; Mak: $75

I also noted on my estimate the called D4355 a Full Mouth Scale, but a real scale would cost closer to $800. The code is for a cleaning.

I also compared Dr. Abe's fees with USC's Faculty Practice Clinic and their prices were very similar to Dr. Mak's. USC told me a full mouth scale would cost $736 and it not D4355.

My advice is if you want a very friendly and pleasant experience go to Dr. Abe. But make sure you know what you are paying for in advance and compare prices.

Dr Abe and his staff are insightful professionals, that are approachable. It is such a wonderful atmosphere, I could not believe it. After 15 years of avoiding the dentist I was referred by an educator, which turned out to be the best dental experience I could ever hope for. Dr Abe is very patient and he walks you through your procedure step by step. Also, this practice is not trying to rush and get to the next client. They really treat everyone like they are a part of their family. After your visit is complete Dr. Abe will personally make a phone to see how your doing and if there are any problems you can reach him directly even after business hours. I will be a client for life and I am recommending Dr. Abe to everyone in my Rolodex. When someone is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty, their work ethic will not go unrecognized.

Dr. Abe and the staff are very friendly and fun. They like to make sure you are comfortable and enjoy any dental visit with them. I was comfortable with the staff but the dental chair ripped my nylons. I had a run all day long. Everything thing looks out dated. With the high prices and a racing car, you would think they would have new decor.

PROS: Great friendly experience
CONS: decor was very sloppy and old

I took my father-in-law to see Dr. Abe because I had heard so many good things about him. Needless to say, my father-in-law has severe dental problems so we expected the estimate to be high.

Once he had the priliminary screening the staff told us the work cost would range from $12k to $18k. That is a huge difference! When we asked what would increase the cost, they simply told us that $18k was the worst case scenario but it would probably be more in the $12k range. That answer was not very reassuring.

As expected, once my father-in-law decided that he would go ahead with the treatment, the staff told him it would probably cost more like $18k. We were so angry, that we just cancelled the visit and voed never to return.

PROS: Friendly staff and Doctor
CONS: Overpriced and no free parking

At my company, Idealab, our PPO dental network doesn't include Dr. Abe so the dental insurance will only pay a portion of the reasonable and customary costs. In almost every instance, Dr. Abe charges 20-35% more than the reasonable and customary. Being that he is out of network, the insurance only covers 80% or 50%, depending on the type of service. I had a few cavities and a cleaning, and I ended up paying over $350 out of my own pocket!! OUTRAGEOUS! And no-one ever told me what service I would be receiving; they just did it and then slapped this huge bill on me. Please, please, please, don't go here and get ripped off. The more people that continue paying these outrageously overpriced fees, the more he is inclined to keep charging at such a high rate. As far as I know, Dr. Abe isn't in any dental network because he knows that if he becomes part of a network, that he will have to decrease his rates as much as 50%!!! So don't go here, go elsewhere. there are many great dentists on Insiderpages.com that I could have gone to and paid less than $50 for the same treatment. Try out Dr. Mak for example!!

PROS: he does a good job and is a nice man
CONS: he charges an arm and a leg, and its something you dont have to pay!!

After my free consultation (which was wonderful), I went back to get four cavities filled and it was completely painless! I am scared to death of novocaine and most dentists/dentistry but this was a great experience. Dr. Abe and his staff are very friendly and talk you through everything step by step. I would recommend Dr. Abe to anyone searching for a painless dentist.

After reading so many good reviews on InsiderPages, I made a visit to the dentist for a checkup. After having one filling done, I was convinced that the service at this dentist office was NOT consistent with all those raving reviews. The doctor seemed to be overly friendly but didn't care much about the details, which resulted in several return visits to fix the problems. I am not sure about others but I am definitely not coming back!

A minor annoyance: parking! No free parking.

PROS:
CONS: Sloppy service.

I found Dr. Abe on Insider Pages six months ago and will never go to another Dentist. Possibly least importantly, Dr. Abe remembers me- and asks personal, friendly conversation every time he sees me.

He tries to save you money by avoiding extraneous procedures, and if he thinks he has to do a procedure that isn't covered by your insurance, he goes over the pros and cons of the procedure carefully before letting you decide.

He is truly a gentle dentist.

He treats his staff well, and they are very happy to be working for him. This translates to yummy (pre-fab) snacks in the waiting room, no/short waits, and good dental care.

He's located in an odd, historic building, so you get a nice view of the Angeles Forest while getting your teeth cleaned.

PROS: Gentle care, considerate care, personable dr and staff, fun to see the dr!
CONS: Parking can be a pain, occasionally.

A wonderful dentist for scaredy cats like me! Dr. Abe has invested in the latest dental equipment so that visits can be shorter and less painful. (A $2000 machine numbs your mouth painlessly before drilling instead of using a $40 syringe filled with novocaine). Very gentle and attentive doctor with friendly staff. On the downside, he and his staff try to upsell you on other procedures like teeth whitening. After spending over $800 on whitening his assistant tried to hide the tooth color chart from me while saying that my teeth were "so much whiter." This made me suspicious so I grabbed the chart and saw that they hadn't become lighter at all.

I would higly recommend Connie as a hygenist - she is friendly but not overly-talkative, she has a pleasant demeanour, and she cleans gently but thoroughly.

CONS: rarely see the dentist
