This place is huge but they do have good service. I have never complained in all the years I have gone here. There are plenty of staff to help with every service you need with your glasses, they even have seminars on surgeries if you are so interested. They also have a huge selection of glasses.
PROS: Huge Selection and Good Service
This flower shop is owned by a couple who have helped our Boys and Girls Club out for three years now with balloon decorations. The kids all go here after school also to get $0.50 sodas. Their flowers are beautiful, I bought chrysanthemums here for a science project. Support local businesses!
You can drive here, walk here or take the Gold Line here. It is across the street from the Mission/South Pasadena Gold Line station. The food is good, the coffee drinks are great and presented well, the atmosphere is fun and eclectic. They have live music on the weekends here. I like to go upstairs to read or study or sit downstairs with friends and chat. I like the feel and vibe of this place and I can just hop on the Gold Line from my house and be here in ten minutes or less.
PROS: Food, fun and huge menu!
CONS: No comfy chairs to sit in
Besides pho, this place has a huge menu of different vegetable, meat and noodle dishes, and most are Vietnamese dishes. They have a koi pond at the front and the staff wear Lakers jerseys on game days as they are huge fans. It is on the outskirts of Chinatown and parking can be hard to find but it is so worth it. Plus, it is run by a friend of a co-worker of mine and he is always helpful, including badgering me to call ahead for take-out orders instead of ordering there. Two thumbs up!
PROS: Great food, atmosphere and people
I love the Chicken Chow Mein or Broccoli Shrimp here and a good French Iced Coffee to go and I mean go because this drink has the kick to keep me going all night long. It is in Lincoln Heights, I can walk there and I know the people who work there because they bring there kids to the after school program I work at. They are friendly most of the time unless they are crowded and you can even get bottled chamomile tea. It is rather greasy and doesn't always get the best restaurant letter grading and can be expensive if you don't go for the lunch specials.
PROS: Good food and local
CONS: Expensive outside of the lunch special and sometimes greasy
When you live near the area of County USC Hospital and you don't like the mom and pop video stores because they don't catalogue their videos so you can never find what you're looking for then this chain is pretty good. I have found most of the movies I want to rent here, they have a small selection of foreign and art house films and the staff are friendly and helpful.
PROS: Friendly staff and local
CONS: They don't always have the movie you want to see!
I love licuados and this is the only place in my neighborhood that I know to get them. Its better than a smoothy and better than the fruit juice. So, if you are into this treat, want to try something new like a licuado or bionicos, like to diversify your palate and try food from many cultures, then go to Lincoln Heights and pick up one of these.
PROS: Yummy treats!
CONS: Nowhere to sit, :(
Do you like Carne Asada burritos? How about Menudo on a Saturday morning? How about albondigos (sp?)? This tiny restaurant in Lincoln Heights has it all (almost). Tortas, tacos, burritos, oh my! The food is good, the staff has been their for ages and are helpful even if they get impatient with my gringa Spanish. Plus, it is a draw for local Los Angeles politicians and city employees.
PROS: Good Food
Do you care more about the environment of your coffee house than the name of your coffee drink? Then, this place is for you. It is housed in a turn of the century house that was remodeled by the owners who live nearby in Montecito Heights. There is a garden with a fountain in the front yard if you want to go about your business outdoors and inside they have comfortable couches, decorative tables and chairs and sometimes live music. They even have a play area for kids on the front porch. The location is at the base of Mt. Washington just off the 110 Freeway Avenue 43 exit. Oh! I almost forgot, the coffee and tea drinks are pretty good, not the best but their food is wonderful including the spinach and brie quiche.
PROS: Interesting location, variety of clientele, comfortable, good food
CONS: off the beaten path if you don't live in the Arroyo Seco neighorhoods of LA
