What a neat store. All the crafts are made from local and nationally based artisans, and they are all beautiful. There are a wide variety of crafts represented here, from pottery, to glassware, to jewelry. The store is small, and a bit crowded feeling, but the gifts are so beautiful. This is the perfect store to go to for a gift for your mom, or for anyone who appreciates beautiful craftsmanship. The staff is friendly, and I have found it far less crowded than many shops in the area, because it is kind of tucked away. Its worth a visit!
This service station, though a bit of a drive for me, is worth the trip. The mechanics here are friendly, competent and honest... a rare treat in mechanics!
They are happy to work with people who tinker with their own cars (like my boyfriend) and give advice and help. Their prices are incredibly reasonable, and I have never walked away feeling cheated.
I have had horrible luck in the past with mechanics, but now that I have been introduced to this service station I feel my luck has changed.
I am a paper addict. I love paper. I do a lot of paper crafts and book and card making and am always buying sheets of papers to use for this purpose. The Paper Source is a great store. one of my favorites. Sheets of gorgeous papers are hung everywhere, and the selection is unbeatable. The staff here is both frienly and very knowledgeable about the papers that they carry. Two thumbs up for this place!!
This miniature rubber stamp and paper crafts store is one of my favorites on the East Coast! I have been to a lot of stamp stores and this one is hands-down one of the best! It is very small, but is floor-to-ceiling stamps. The owners have a great sense of stamps, and there are a lot of really great ones.
They also have a great stock of other products, both basics like inkpads, and hard to find or trendy items. They have a small selection of magazines. The best part is that they have classes often! The staff is great and the classes are so much fun! I wish I still lived in New York, as I used to visit often.
PROS: great selection, friendly and knowledgeable staff
CONS: it's small, and can feel cramped
This tiny little shop on Boylston Street is a great little resource center/health food store/sandwich shop/ coffee place. It is a tiny little place on Boylston Street, near the Stony Brook T stop. They have a basic selection of health food staples, as well as a nice dairy case, and other basics like tofu, tempeh, etc.
My favorite part of the shop is their sandwiches. The make a great selection of freshly made vegan sandwiches (I recommend the roast tofurkyit is great), as well as sandwiches with meat. They also carry a lot of locally grown produce and occasionally the delicious Jamaica Plain Honey, made by bees that live in JP.
The community message board is a great way to find a job, garage sale, apartment, or just find out what is going on in Jamaica Plain. There are couches to sit on while you drink your amazing fair trade coffee, and the staff is great.
PROS: great sandwiches, great coffee
CONS: I wish the selection of food was bigger
Stamp of Approval is the only rubber stamp store in the Boston metro area. It is extremely small, but they really fit a lot of products in a small place. They have a good selection of basics, and a great selection of magazines, including back issues.
The staff is occasionally friendly but more often than not just kind of ignore you. It seems that every time I have been in lately they have been on the phone and hardly even acknowledge that I'm there.
But it is the only shop I can get to by T that carries a lot of the products and it isn't so bad.
PROS: good basics, great magazine selection
CONS: staff kind of ignores you
The State Street Smoke Shop is a tiny smoke storefront that sells cigars, cigarettes, magazines, and greeting cards, as well as a small selection of fairly nice wine. It is very convenient for all the office workers in the area, but I am afraid that's about the only reason I stop in there. It is also one of the onlye stores in this particular area that sells good cigars, but since I do not smoke cigars it isn't a draw for me.
The downside to this shop is the staff who are a bit standoffish. I'd rather buy my wine or beer somewhere else.
PROS: good cigars
CONS: unfriendly staff
