Bionic Records
Pretty good for a record store that isn't totally vinyl oriented. A good selection of cds and some vinyl, plus a used section that has a lot of 90s rap and pop. They carry a good selection of patches, pins and t-shirts as well. The store is a little small, but for the most part I've found what I was looking for. The staff is pretty helpful as well. I would definitely recommend for your basic punk album needs, even though mail order might be cheaper. For harder to find stuff, you might come up empty handed.
Ebisu Market
A good selection of Japanese foods, some that cannot be found elsewhere in Orange County. The smallest of the Orange County Japanese supermarkets, but still has a great selection & fair prices. A nice array of fresh produce and Japanese candies and snacks. The store is conveniently located in a shopping center with a Japanese restaurant, french style pastry bakery, and a Japanese import items store. Fresh sushi is also available at Ebisu. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Dole Plantation
As a huge fan of pineapple, I was extremely disappointed by the fact that the fresh pineapple was horrible! However, the Dole plantation isn't all about eating. For a small fee (ranging from about $4-$7 per activity per person), you can go explore the world's largest maze, take a train ride or walk through the botanical gardens. The grounds are also rich with information about pineapples from around the world, and how pineapples are grown and picked. Afterwards, you can enjoy a nice dairy free pineapple ice cream or choose from a variety of pineapple infused baked goods in the gift store. A good family atmosphere & an experience that is fun for all ages.
Valley of the Temples Mortuary, Funeral, Cremation & Memorial Park
A very calming and soothing atmosphere despite being both a cemetary and somewhat of a tourist attraction. The grounds are well kept, even though there are a larger number of people passing through than most memorial parks. The Japanese temple is extremely authentic and the grounds are nice for just walking around and relaxing, the surroundings are quite beautiful.
Great Harvest Bread
Great Harvest Bread Company has a very upscale, gourmet feel to it. The store itself is very well kept and clean & conveniently located. There is a good selection of fresh breads made with healthy ingredients & different varieties of bread are available on different days of the week; there is a board on the wall letting customers know which days their favorites will be baked. Prices are pretty fair, and the quality of the bread is much better than most loaves you find on the supermarket shelves.
Leonard's Bakery
My parents love Leonard's malasadas and they even bought me funny looking malasada plush wearting a striped chef's hat. Leonards has a wide array of baked goods in addition to their specialty, the malasada. You can choose from a variety of malasada fillings (cream, coconut, etc.) and coatings (cinnamon sugar, sugar). The bakery also has cute gift items, such as tee shirts with little malasada cartoons and the Leonards logo, as well as plushes such as mentioned above.
Petland
I bought a bird here on impulse several years ago, and he is a very healthy and energetic little guy. At the time I purchased my pet, the staff seemed rather unknowledgable in terms of recommending supplies nor could they tell me the age of my bird. But for the most part, the animals I saw seemed to be healthy, and the store was clean and well kept. I would recommend for supplies and if you know specifically what you want, but for pets its probably better to go to a breeder, although I couldn't be happier with my bird.
Down To Earth
Down to Earth carries a great selection of health foods and produce, at fair prices. You can find all your health food needs there including vitamins, hair and skin care, and vegan products that are sometimes otherwise difficult to locate elsewhere. Down to Earth also sells prepared food as well, with a "buffet-like" section that includes various vegetarian and vegan dishes as well as baked goods and pastries. Prices for prepared foods are realtively high, but not unreasonable.
Koolau Pets Plants & Ponds
A pretty good selection for a pet store thats in a mall, usually mall pet stores are much smaller and cramped, this one is pretty spacious with a good selection of animals including birds, fish and puppies. The staff isn't exceptionally helpful, but they do seem to take good care of their animals which is a the most important thing.
Kualoa Ranch & Activity Club
Kualoa Ranch offers a wide array of activities from horseback riding to ATVs. It's a nice place for tourists to visit and there is a nice view of the ocean, Chinaman's Hat and the mountain range. The ranch has a nice gift store, with decent souvenirs. Even if you don't want to pay for the attractions, they have a bunch of cute animals such as an ostrich, cows, parrot, monkey, llamas, etc. that you can view free of charge (my only concern is that the parrot seems extremely lonely and needs a lot more attention). Overall, it is a good place to explore, which the staff lets visitors do freely without a hassle.
