Terri Roper is an amazing photographer. She is able to capture the emotion of the moment and make anyone look and feel like a celebrity. Not only are the photos wonderful, she is great to workwith. She is incredibly personable and makes you feel comfortable about the process.
My business partners and I used Terri for our group shots and headshots. She spent all day with us and brought out each of our individual personalities. She was very good at understanding that a subject that feels comfortable will photograph better.
The art institute is a Chicago staple - definitely visit if you are in town. They have some great famous paintings by people you've heard of - Van Gogh, Rembrant, Dali, Picasso. And even more wonderful works by people you've never heard of. The museum is truly gigantic and can take a long time to go through - so plan on bringing or buying lunch. There's also a great gift shop to pick up souvenirs of what you've just seen once you are feeling inspired. Tuesday's are free admission so that's a great time to go. And spend a few minutes before or after hanging out on the steps, checking out the passer-bys on Michigan Avenue.
Chicago's Field Museum isn't one of the most visited for no reason - it's amazing! They have so many exhibits that you really need to go several times to take it all in. One of the best parts is the dinosaurs - real dinosaur bones and replications with great descriptions. Also check out the gems. They have a huge display of rare gemstones which will leave any woman drooling. There is also a great section on the evolution of man.
Beware that there will be large groups of school children during the week. They have a few places to eat but it can be kind of expensive - I recomment bringing your own lunch.
This is a wonderful treat of a location. They have 2-story king suites that have a large whirlpool tub-for-two. They even provide bubble bath in the amenities. The rooms are very well-appointed. They offer special setups in the rooms. For the occasion we stayed my husband arranged for chocolate covered cherries and champagne to be delivered. They have several restaurants & pubs - we enjoyed The Baker's Wife for dinner. They also have a Zany's comedy club onsite which offers great shows. Definitely splurge for the Sunday brunch. It is very, very impressive. Several stations of everything you can imagine - and beautiful ice sculpture too! This is a wonderful location and a great place to take someone special for a celebratory weekend.
I had the unfortunate pleasure of spending 9 days in the Swedish Medical Center major trauma center after a skiing accident. They were absolutely wonderful. My family (3-6 people) spent nearly all day in the wing and were treated wonderfully by the nurses, doctors and staff. All of the nurses (except one who didn't speak very clear English) were super nice - especially when they had to wake me in the middle of the night! The rooms were equipped with everything you could need.
For patient services - they have trained dogs come by a few times a week for theraputic reasons. This was a nice treat during an unpleasant time. They also offer the ability to email a patient on their website - a nice feature that many of my out-of-state friends used.
The food was decent for hospital food.
Compared to some of the 4-5 slope mountains in the midwest Wilmot is decent. Be prepared for skiing on ice. They have 20+ runs and eight lifts. There is even a half pipe - although I haven't used it. There is a fairly nice "house" at the base with a restaurant, lockers for your street shoes and ski rental. Saturdays/Sundays are very busy and Friday nights see a lot of school groups so watch out for that. Snow is hit or miss and they have to make a lot of their own. They do offer night skiing which can be a lot of fun - but beware - it's COLD at night!
PROS: Not too far from Chicagoland
CONS: Ice skiing
We almost exclusively go to the Colorado Cinemas at Bowles Crossing. The movie theater is very clean and they do an excellent job of picking up each theater between showings. The staff is very friendly. Their prices are still more reasonable than some of the big chains. It is also possible to get coupons through Entertainment Books and the like. They always have the latest new releases. Overall, this is a very good place for movie watching.
The Zephyr Lodge is gorgeous. The rooms are mostly condos owned and decorated by real people - not a management company. The suite we stayed in was 2 bed/2bath with a nice kitchen and living room. It was decorated warmly, had a nice fireplace and great mountain views.
The ski-in/ski-out to Winter Park is fabulous. Each suite gets a locker to store skis overnight and to store regular shoes during the day. There is parking available underground.
They have movies you can rent and watch in your room and the lodge has beautiful common areas with big fireplaces, etc - a quintessential ski resort. Walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops. And a bus to take you into downtown WInter Park is just steps from the entrance.
Camille La Vie carries their dresses in all different sizes. This is a great switch from normal bridal shops where they may have each dress in only one size - and it's always too big or too small to fit you! At Camille La Vie you can try on everything in your size. Their dresses are beautiful but not too expensive. A lot of them look very, very similar to much higher priced designer dresses but have fewer of the embellishments and not such high quality fabrics. They are still wonderful - just not extravagent.
The staff in the upstairs bridal department is very helpful. However, when I first went in I was searching downstairs for bridesmaid dresses. I did not get any help from the staff. This was very disappointing.
We have been working with Tim Sith to find our new home. He has been a pleasure to work with. He gave us acess to a Home Buyer's Scouting Report which allowed us to review everything in our price range online and see all of the features. He was very flexible when setting up viewings - willing to work nights/weekends. Tim was able to give us his professional opinion on whether a house was priced correctly. We ended up making an offer on a home with a seller that was a bit difficult. Tim was completely diligent in negotiating for us and making sure our needs were met.
He kept us informed throughout the negotiation process and we felt he was a great representative of our position.
He is a Colorado native and very familiar with the local market.
PROS: Local native, flexible, hard working
