Mott Hardware Inc
Only recommended if it is the only store open at the time you need something. Everything is over priced in the store. Limited selection that has been there for a while. They do make keys that are relatively cheap compared to other stores. You can go here to ask for advice about something but the owner does not know that much english. They still sell wallpaper by the feet. Store needs upgrading and more lights.
Sunny Candy Store
Like the title says, there is not much good things to say about this store. The food they sell are mostly over dued. They have a rat infestation even with a cat on the premises. The rats chew through the wrappers of many food or sometimes they just leave a hole in the bags. The owner's kids are almost always around when school is over. There are only two good things to say about this. The sodas are the only things that are not expired and it is quick to buy lottery here. Go here if you want to eat a bag of chips that has been shared with rats.
Golden Seas Restaurant
The food is great and it is authentic Chinese run. The chief is brought in from the Chinatown in NY. The price reflects the area it is in. Staff is nice and actually knows what is going into the food that is on the menu. It is a nice environment and family friendly place to eat. The spicy food are the best for those that can stand it. Great place for roasted duck.
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory
The one place to find a different kind of ice cream. They have chinese flavored ice cream that you can't find any place else. If you ask, you can get a sample of any flavor you want. Try the red bean ice cream. It is a small store and sometimes you have to wait till people are done on the inside before you can go in. They sell ice cream cakes, it is not considered expensive. The store is opened late. They also have regular flavored ice cream though it does not taste as good as the others.
Romanbc Music and Gift Shop Incorporated
This is a stationary store and it is a very small and cramp place. The staff will follow you around because of the ease of stealing small objects. They sell fairly cute pencils and stationaries. Excellent place to find cheap trinkets from Korea. There is a small selection of cds in the back. Stuffed animals are also sold and trading cards. Again, the staff will follow you around no matter your race or age. They will have piggybanks and jars that you won't be able to find in any other store in the county.
Deluxe Food Market
This store starts at one street and ends up at another. On the Mott St side, they mostly sell meat and the usual cooked duck, chicken, and roasted pig among other things. In the middle there are vegetables sold. On the Elizabeth side, there is a bakery and you can buy a lunchbox for a very good price. For $2.75, you can have a choice of up to 3 dishes with white rice. It is best to scope out both sides of hot food because sometimes they have different selections. On the Elizabeth St side they have tables for people to sit and eat or stand and eat. There is also a bathroom on the premises. The store is normally very crowded.
Revolution Books
The staff is very nice and will help you find the books you need. This is not your average bookstore and they sell only a limited selection of books. Keep a lookout for the door to the store, it is fairly easy to miss. This is the place to find books for a sociology class or a psychology class. They will also try to sell you a newspaper for $1, not worth it in my opinion since it is very liberal.
Po Wing Hong Food Market
This is a purely Chinese runned, chinese grocery store. The selections are not the best for the average shoppers. Mainly sells dried chinese produce. Has a large selection of tea for the tea lovers. They do sell frozen food but it is expensive. Also sells chinese delicacy's such as dried seahorses and ginseng. This is the place to go to buy ingredients for herbal medicine.
Pomodora Restaurante-Pizzeria
The pizza here are one of the best in the area. Quick and good service. There are seatings outdoor. The staff are great. The pizza is fresh and the price is good. Location wise, it is very easy to find, right off the 6 train. They have a good selection of appetizers and pasta. The drinks though, ask for no ice. Pizza crust is crispy.
Dynasty Supermarket
The things in this market is expensive, you can find cheaper prices if you shop around Chinatown. However, this is one of the only few real markets in central Chinatown and they do have a good selection. One of the only places in Chinatown to find Hershey's Milk Chocolate Nuggets. Must watch out for the expiration dates though. Don't expect to find many people that don't speak english. They sell fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, gold, and other accessories all under one roof.
