Morton's is a fantastic big city restaurant in small town America. The food is really great and the ambiance is even better. This is the perfect date restaurant and has hosted it's fair share of prom go-ers. This is a great find.
La Margarita is in a relatively convenient downtown Salem location. The food is decent, not great but warrants a try. It is a fun atmosphere to go grab some margaritas with friends.
This is a fun location but is not so great for conversations. It can be very loud at times and is frequented by families. The food is pretty good for the area but not necessarily that great in the grand scheme of things.
The Brick has a very fun atmosphere and the food is pretty decent. It's a great place for a casual but fun night out and to meet up with friends. It's in a convenient downtown location which is great for a quick bite to eat at lunch as well.
No price can beat Walery's for the quality of pizza. It's no Chicago deep dish or New York brick oven pizza, but it's great for Salem. This is a fun place for groups of friends, families or pizza parties.
The food at Thai Orchid has great food. It is very authentic and rivals big city Thai restaurants. It is in a great location with a view of downtown Salem. Unfortunately the service can often ruin a nice meal. You have to practically beg someone to serve you and it can make for a long meal.
Los Arcos is good but it's hard to say it's great when La Hacienda is not far away. The salsa is good and they have a decent selection. The atmosphere is also good. I would never choose this over La Hacienda, however.
This place is totally overrated. It was quite expensive for the city and especially for the food. It was ok but I would not pay the prices to go again and I would recommend you look somewhere else for a good meal.
This is my first and last stop every time I travel home to Salem. This is 100% authentic Mexican food. This place has even been written up in the USA Today. I have never had a bad meal here, but I particularly recommend the Enchiladas Fajitas - steak, Enchiladas Verdes, Nachos, Molcajete...I could go on forever. They are always quick because there will inevitably be a line out the door. But the wait to get in never seems to be too long. Either way, it's worth the wait. The portions are huge and this is an incredible deal. You should also try the lunch, it's generally a better time to visit if you don't want to wait.
This is perfect hangover food or a 2 AM food run. Other than that I would never choose it. It's a bit dirty and greasy but the food is decent. It makes for a quick stop and is very cheap.
